I went to Walgreen’s last night with their store coupons and mfg coupons on each item. I then handed them my RR from my last trip. I was informed that the RR could no longer be used with Mfg coupons because the RR is a mfg coupon. In the past I have been able to use these. What is a RR for if not to use with others? I was very disappointed (along with other problems in the past) and will now just go to Rite Aid and CVS, as Walgreen’s keeps changing the rules. Any thoughts?
Dian says
@Hazel: Hazel, let me contact them and see what this is all about, I’ll get back to you here.
Thanks!
Dian
Julie says
I was also told this, but it just so happened that I had more coupons than items and once I threw a laffy taffy in the transaction I was able to use my RR! Hope this helps!
Aliscia says
So say if i had two different loreal make up coupons for two different values, i could use those two coupons for one item ?
Dian says
@Aliscia: No, 1 of the coupons has to be a store coupon like a coupon from out of Walgreens Sales ad and the other needs to be a Manufacturer coupon.
And of course the deal would have to be at Walgreens to be able to use the Walgreens coupon.
Does that make sense?
Thanks!
Dian

Please clarify to me if this works:
If an item which is featured at Walgreens is a Buy One, Get One Free promotion. Can I use a coupon which is a Buy One, Get One Free and get both items for free? The reason I am asking even thou your video says they do is because I have been told by them that I cannot. What policy can I show them to like them know they are wrong?
Dian says
Joe,
You can show them their own policy! 😉

Hope that helps!
Dian
Samantha says
I just want to know if I am correct about Joes post. If the store has a buy one get one free and you have a coupon for that as well do you get 3 items free and only pay for one?
Thanks,
Samantha
Dian says
Samantha » At my store I can use a BOGO coupon on a BOGO sale and get 2 FREE.
This all their current policy states on the issue: Buy One, Get One Free Coupons
When items are featured in a Buy One, Get One Free promotion, up to two coupons can be used against the items being purchased, as long as the net price does not go below zero for the items being purchased.
Sales tax must be paid for any Buy One, Get One Free coupon offers, if required by applicable state laws.
Therefore stores can interpret that different ways. So, YMMV.
Here is the current Coupon Policy: https://groceryshopforfree.com/store-policies/walgreens/
I hope that helps!

Tonia says
There seems to be a lot of confusion around about the BOGO sales, combined with BOGO coupons. My understanding (and thankfully my store’s), is that I will take 2 items on that sale to the register, and using the coupon with the store sale, I will get them both free.
I am seeing a lot of people talking/blogging about how their store is making them buy 1, and get 1 free, and then using the coupon get another free. So, they are getting 2 free, but they have to actually purchase 1. Someone even had the store call corporate, and that is what they were told as well.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Dian says
Tonia » Well, funny you should bring this up… another reader just went thru this very thing and was in meetings with her store manager and calling corporate for 3 days to get a straight answer about the right Guard BOGO Sale and BOGO coupon this week.
Today she posted this on the Facebook page:
REGARDING RIGHT GUARD: I got a call from the manager at my Walgreen’s!!! He said that “it just came down from corporate” that ALL WALGREEN’S WILL honor the BOGO coupon with the BOGO sale making the purchase FREE!!! HOWEVER-each store can limit the purchase! My store let me get 4 deodorant and 4 body wash!
So, that is what she was told. My store’s will honor a BOGO Coupon with a BOGO Sale, but, I know other’s have been told to get 4 and pay for 1… So, basically it’s not in writing anywhere so ultimately it would be up to the store manager unless you can get someone at corporate to tell the store manager to do it.
Hope that helps!
Dian
Tonia says
Oh thank you so much! I hope Walgreen’s updates their policy online to reflect this as well. It’s so sad that people are being treated like criminal’s when using coupons, lol.
Dian says
Tonia » Very true!

I was told today by a cashier that I couldnt do that even though ive seen alot of people stating that the did. It wasnt the fact that I couldn’t do it ( yes I was disappointed though) it was the attitude the cashier had about it. She said it in a way that made me feel stupid for trying and there were several people behind me in line. I was beyond embarrassed!
Dian says
Ashley » I am sorry that happened and I do hate that it does. My advice is to always check out at the cosmetics counter – they seem to know more and do better. They see the couponers come thru and they even know what deals you are doing once they see what you have! they’re really good and usually not busy so you don’t need to worry about people behind you.
Hope that helps!

I had to reward.go to Walgreens three times to use an AARP reward. One to make a purchase, one to spend the $20.00 and one to get the $5.00, then it would not give me a rr. Think I do best at CVS. Yea, I made some people behind me mad because I did not understand what was going on. I have learned to check every price on every purchase at every store.
Dian says
Betsy,
I would suggest going thru the cosmetic counter line – the people who work there know more about the deals usually than the people on the front register.
Also, when a Register reward doesn’t print, you can call the Catalina company to get it resolved IF you did all you were supposed to to get it and it didn’t print:
Call 1-800-8CATALINA or email them at catalinamarketing.com
Thanks!
Dian
Carrie says
If the RR doesn’t print, talk to the manager. Although RR’s are supposed to mfg backed payments, they know it’s a hassle getting the reimbursement from the Catalina company and so will sometimes take the loss and offer you a store credit in it’s place.
TJ says
I am so upset with Walgreens. I went to purchase the Purx Complete Crystals Softner which is on sale or $4.99 but then there is a $2 manufacturer coupon making it $2.99 but then you are suppose to get a $2 RR my RR did not print out and before the lady rang me up she said RR will no longer be issued if you use a manufacturer coupon. These stores are getting out of hand with their coupon policies like they are losing money. Plus before ended up at that stor I went to 2 other Walgreens who were completely sold out but the managers at both of those stores were nice enough to give me a raincheck for the $2.99 price then I can use m $2 off coupon so I end up coming out better w/0 RR.
Dian says
TJ, I am sorry that happened.
I would have to know more about the actual transaction to know what happened for sure. But, when things don’t work out they tend to go for the RR won’t print when you use a coupon thing – which is NOT true.
Case in point: In this week’s Walgreens ad on their website – right now on page 8 for the Dove Nutriskin Lotion – you can see that you get an RR AND they have plainly printed that you can find a coupon in the Sunday paper for it, too! So, they KNOW you can use a manufacturer’s coupon AND get an RR.
Now, you cannot purchase an item with an RR from the sale of the same item and get another RR.
What I mean is – you can’t buy gum and get an RR and then use that RR to get gum AND get another RR.
You can use that RR on the gum – but, it won’t print another RR.
I hope that makes sense.
Thanks,
Dian
TJ says
The Purex Complete Crystals Softner was the only item I bought, that’s why I don’t understand why my RR didn’t print.
Dian says
Tj,
If you had 1 Purex Crystals – the right size and price for what was advertised as having an RR and it didn’t print – then I would call the Catalina Company – they will handle it for you:
Call 1-800-8CATALINA or email them at catalinamarketing.com
When you contact them, make sure you provide them:
Your name & mailing address
The Store Name, Address & Store Number (you should be able to get that info from your receipt)
Date & time of your purchase
Total amount of your purchase
Which Catalina you were expecting.
As in: “I bought 1 Purex Crystals and was expecting to get a $2 Catalina”
If you choose to email them you may want to send them a scanned copy of your receipt with the info I mentioned above.
Catalina may tell you it could be 6-8 weeks before you receive it, but you could get it in just 1.
Make sure to keep your receipt until you get your Catalina, just in case you need to re-submit your info.
Thanks!

Dian,
I just shopped at Walgreens for the first time today. I used coupons and had a bad experience and may never go back because of the fight I got from the manager. I bought 2 Thermacare Heat Wraps that were 5.99 each and then I had a $4/2 mfg coupon. I also bought 2 Infusium Shampoo’s for 5.99 each and had 2 $2/1 mfg coupons. I then bought 1 Charmin tp for $3.99 and there was an In-add coupon making it $2.99. So that was 5 items with 3 mfg coupons and 1 store coupon. Then I used $6.50 in 3 different Catalina coupons. I bought 1 filler item so I would have 6 items and 6 mfg coupons. I was supposed to get back $5 RR for the Thermacare items and then $2 RR for 1 Shampoo. The coupons never printed out and the manager said that because I used coupons for the items I couldn’t get RR. I tried to tell him otherwise but he wouldn’t listen. I then went onto my next purchase and got 2 Suave lotions for $3 each and 2 Suave shampoos for $3 each. I have a $1/2 for the lotion and $1/2 for the shampoo. I got the $4 RR back on this. I asked the manager why that one worked but the one above didn’t and he said he didn’t know and that’s what happens sometimes and there is nothing I can do about it. What should I do?
Thanks!

I used my $10 register rewards towards neuragen which is supposed to have a $19.99 rebate (by mail). What I need to know is IF I send it in, will they pay me the $19.99 or just the 9.99 that I paid AFTER my register rewards.
You have to include the receipt.
If they will only pay the $9.99, then what good was the register reward?
I’m so fed up, I’m thinking of returning everything I bought today. (Went three times for 3 different items)
Thank you
Dian says
Annete » You will get $19.99 as long as the rebate did not exclude coupons, and it didn’t exclude coupons if I am not mistaken.
I hope that helps – sorry you are discouraged! 🙂
Dian
Annete says
Dian,
Thank you for your speedy and informed reply.
I just realized IF I take it back (instead of sending in the rebate) I’d
be out the register rewards ($10) anyway…or do they issue store credit?
I’d have no choice but to return the original item I bought to get the
full amount back. Arrrgh.
This is likely my *last* Walgreens RR experience.
Dian says
Annete » Why would you return it right now you have $10 RR and you will get another $19.99 back in the rebate giving you a FREE product PLUS $10.
Dian
Annete says
I only try *new* products (that I otherwise wouldn’t try)
when they have great coupons or are free.
This has introduced me to some products I would never have thought I’d
like in the past, so for the cost of tax and a postage stamp, it’s worth the risk.
IF it’s a product I’d *wanted* to try, I don’t mind so much, but this is not.
I just thought that in the past, I’d discovered things I didn’t think I’d use much or didnt’ think would work and actually liked them so much I continued to buy them.
Initially I’d bought a new product to try (thus paying $10 for that $10 rr.)
I paid another $10 for this item.
IF I only get $10 from the rebate, I’d lose my inital $10 rr investment.
This would mean I’d be paying $10 for something I may not even like
and wouldn’t use normally.
Serenity pads $10 -got $10 rr
Neuragen $20 – I paid $10 in addition to the $10 rr.
Thus I’m out $20.
IF I get $20 back, I break even minus any tax, stamp, etc. (about $2)
IF I get $10 back, I’ve paid $10 ($12 if you count the tax, stamp, etc)
to try two new items I wouldn’t normally buy.
(By the way one of the best items I got from a rebate that I never thought would work was “No More Pain” spray. I was so surprised that it not only worked, but
worked so well, I now pay the $10-$15 -depends on size and if on sale-
repeatedly to buy more so it’s become something I always have on hand. I’d say the manufacturer more than got their initial rebate amount back in my followup purchases.)
Perhaps I’ll keep it if you really think I’ll get the full $20 back, but still wonder, if I chose to return it would they return my $10 rr that I used to pay for it?
Dian says
Annete » Honestly – it is due back to you – question is in what form your Manager will choose to refund it – store credit, gift card, cash? Only YOUR manager knows for sure. I wish i could tell you for sure but it is ultimately up to them.
Dian
Annete says
Thank you Dian
I may call the # on the rebate tomorrow and ask them what the policy is,
although I’d read postings online that a few people didn’t get their rebates
from LAST time (?Oct/Nov 10) and they couldn’t REACH anyone when
they tried to investigate.
You’ve been very nice to help me sort through this.
Because of you, I might just take the chance 🙂
Thanks again Dian!!!
You’re a real blessing!
Dian says
Annete » Well, good luck and let me know how it works out!
Thanks!
Dian
Annete says
OK…I called the # on the rebate form.
This is the manufacturer’s number for Neuragen.
They said they have nothing to do with the rebates.
They are processed through a clearing house and
no one there has any influence over the outcome (how they
determine the amount due) however they generally will
ONLY PAY the amount paid AFTER all coupons.
Since my register receipt rang up as a “manufacturer’s coupon”
I will get back $10.
I told her that wasn’t fair. I got the store credit from an UNRELATED
product and not a Neuragen coupon.
She said the I should submit it, and tell them what happened and if I get
back the incorrect amount to call back and IF there is a problem, they’ll
work with me to fix it. She said I’d FIRST have to go back to my local walgreens
and ask them to fix it. IF they won’t, depending on the reason, she (or another customer service rep will refund my $$) if I am indeed supposed to get it.
Sounds to me like no one knows what they’re talking about, there’s going to be a WHOLE lotta hassle and in the end I’ll be out $10. It’s going to take at least $2.50 in GAS just to go back to the store.
This #&#^&%^& store and product has already been a major hassle.
Dian says
Annete » They do go thru a clearinghouse and they abide by what the rebate says – if it doesn’t exclude the use of coupons – they have to abide by it.
All rebates and coupons go thru a clearinghouse – the girl you spoke to would have no knowledge of what they do.
Hope that helps!
Dian
Annete says
Great…that means I have to take back all three purchases to start over.
What a mess.
I will never EVER shop at walgreens again (for rebates or RR)
Ever.
They can take all their so called “deals” and have full shelves and no customers.
People in general are pretty FED UP with all this.
(I’ve been searching for others having issues with walgreens….even at their facebook site…really disgusting)
Dian says
Annete » Does the rebate say that it excludes coupons?
Dian
Annete says
Nope, Dian, it does NOT
I’ll type EXACTLY what it says(line by line):

++++++++++++++++++
Absolutely NOTHING about a partial refund.
Absolutely NOTHING about Mfg coupons.
This is what has me so angry. The RRs were from a completely
UNRELATED product. This was NOT an Origin Bio-Med Coupon.
I paid for that credit (RR) fair and square in accordance with the circular.
Dian says
Annete » So, then I am confused – the rebate does not say it won’t refund the RR. Then why not do the rebate?
They have to abide by what’s on it and it does not say anything about NOT refunding because you used an RR – so, my take is you would get back $19.99 – so, I don’t understand what the problem is – am I missing something?
Dian
Annete says
That’s EXACTLY what I thought, but BioMed said they pay the price AFTER any coupons and since the RR come up as a COUPON, I will most likely get $10, not $20.
I may send it tell them that it says $19.99 Rebate and that’s what I’m expecting.
Of course, what do you want to bet if I do that,
they’ll not process it and I won’t get the $$.
Then I’ll spend MONTHS trying to get my $$,
having to resubmit & prove all this over and over until I’m so frustrated,
I give up anyway. That’s why I’d like to just return it IF I knew I’d get the RR
back, but most likely I’d have to take *everything* back and start over.
What a freakin mess.
IF ONLY Walgreens would NOT PRINT “Manufacturer’s COUPON” but instead
“STORE CREDIT” which it actually IS since you paid for that item being told you’d
get store credit off your next purchase.
Duplicate submissions or submissions that do not follow all of the stated
instructions ***or terms and conditions*** will not be honored or returned.
Just What *ARE* the Terms and Conditions? No mention.
Again, after this, NO MORE WALGREENS
Dian says
I am sorry for all these issues you are having 🙁
Dian
Annete says
Do you happen to know what walgreens does when you return an item that you purchased using RRs?
Dian says
It’s up to your manager how they handle returns when an RR is involved.
Sorry I wish I could tell you more!
Dian
Annete says
PS. I’d go back now, but it’s 7 miles away. Round trip that’s over 1/2 gal of gas or
another $2 and what do you want to bet it will still be unresolved.
Dian says
I would call ahead of time and talk to the manager so that you know and then there will be no issues when you go in!

i am so sick of dealing with Wal;greens as well. I went to every Walgreens in this area last week looking for those stupid Reach Crystal Clean toothbrushes that had the RR., I either never found them or found 1 at 2 separate stores. So I had them write me out Rainchecks at every store I went to. Now, what really pisses me off is every person who wrote me a raincheck after I questioned why noone had these toothbrushes, “We don’t normally order very many toothbrushes”. I asked if you are going to run an ad in the paper and have a coupon that offers the toothbrushes at a reduced price, then you should have a barrel of them available for people to buy since you put Limit 3??? Well, I decided to just check out a couple of the Walgreens that didn’t have them last week and WHAT A MIRACLE, the one Walgreens that specifically told me they don’t order very many, had at least 20 to 30 on their shelves tonight. I was pissed. This is not the first item I have noticed that they do this way. Every week, I go to the store on Sunday morning and check out what we have with coupons and it never fails they always have one or two items that they don’t even have that they run ads for. And mind you these items are offering RR, so my thinking is they are using those items to “bait” you into coming into the store and then when they aren’t available the consumer will not only buy another product but will buy other items. I also went tonight and had 2/ B1G1 coupons for the Axe Body Wash which were in the paper inserts this past weekend. They also have it on sale B1g1 50%…so I had 2 coupons for 2 bottles, the manager said I could not use them. I have been using 2 B1g1 on 2 bottles of everything else? Why can’t all these stores be on the same page???? I am about fed up with all this stress behind trying to save a little money…it’s just not worth all the problems and drama associated with this.
Dian says
It can be frusttrating at times, you just have to tke a breath and keep going.
You can’t use 2 B1G1 coupons on 2 items. You can use a B1G1 coupon on a B1G1 sale, but you can’t use 2 b1g1 on 2 products.
You have to think of it this way:
You care getting one for FREE – that one you cannot use a coupon on – it’s already FREE. The coupon requires you to buy 1. If the store has a b1g1 sale – then essentially the store is buying one and the manufacturer is buying one and that covers both. But, you always have to do what the coupon says, if it says buy 1, then in some way you have to buy 1.
Hope that helps!
Dian
Annete says
You know, I can understand from a cashier’s point of view, couponers are a pain in the neck, esp. at a store that has such frustrating changing policy. It makes it hard for the customer, hard for the employee and flat out doesn’t make much sense…..if they don’t like people trying products that they’re advertising as “free” w/rebate or with $ off future purchases, frankly, they shouldn’t off them. To plan your precious time around their policies, only to be confused and end up paying what you didn’t expect does NOT do Walgreens, the manufacturer of the item OR the poor frustrated cashiers any favors.
I can’t help but wonder WHY they do it. I decided to mail in my rebate and when I get back the half $10 instead of the $20 I would have gotten if I didn’t use a register receipt) I’m going to take my receipts back to Walgreens and ask for $10 credit toward another item. IF I hadn’t paid for the rebated item with what I was told was $ off my next purchase there, I’d get the $10 back. This way, the $10 RR did me zero good. IF by chance I get it easily resolved, I’ll buy again, but only on rare occasion. Sad thing is, without these coupon items, I actually *like* walgreens, but when a store publishes “deals” but makes it so that trying to GET the item you always walk away knowing you’re out $$ you thought you’d be getting…well, again, I wish instead of RR, they’d give store credit with a debit card that you could use within 6 months or so and would ring up like a debit card, not a manuf. coupon.
Life is too hard, time is too short and everyday issues are too complex to have to make your shopping excursions as much effort as a job. It only causes resentment from a customer point of view and I wouldn’t even want to “dream” of what their poor cashiers go through with the rules, having to explain them, etc.

Hi Dian,
Thanks for such a wonderful website! I am just beginning to learn about RR and ECB. I am ready to cash some RR’s in tomorrow. Got my list, checked it twice, ready to buy more stuff and get more rewards, lol. I understand from your video and the previous posts that I shouldn’t use same purchase rewards for making another of the same purchase. EX: don’t use $1RR from G-U-M to but another G-U-M because it won’t give me $1 RR on the 2nd purchase. However, can I use a $1 RR from a previous purchase of a different item made a week ago to buy G-U-M and still get $1RR? Your speedy answer will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

ok i went to Walgreens (saturday) because I had a rain check on the Reach toothbrushes (that I have been trying to get for weeks) lol so i had coupons for 1.00 off, well low and behold there they were an entire rack full of toothbrushes, and they were marked .99 cents. so i grabbed 6 of them and i ended up paying like couple of dollars. but i got RR for each toothbrush I bought, it spit out $6.00 in coupons. so i happened to go by another walgreens today and got 6 more toothbrushes and used the RR (got all 6 for free) and it spit out more RR??? i was like ok. So I have another trip planned tomorrow to Walgreens and I am going to see if it does the same thing. and the Cottonelle Toilet paper, I ended up getting free because i got a $5.00 RR for being an AARP member. just remember if you have an AARP card, scan it before you hand them any coupons, at least that’s what they said to do.

Linda,
That’s great! Thanks for letting us know that the RR for the toothbrushes is rolling!

I am new to couponing and am focusing on Walgreen’s at the moment since they seem to have some really great deals out. I plan to go tomorrow for some of the new ad prices. I was hoping you could help me out before I go! Ok so if I am right I CAN use manuf. coupons on items and still get RR’s… and I CAN also use a RR from a previous purchase on a diff item and get more RR on the new item that has RR’s. … and for example the Nexcare bandaids that have a 2.99 rebate even if I use coupons on those I should get the full 2.99 back unless it states on rebate that they send the amount after coupons. …
Sorry I have so many questions! Your site seems to have the most knowledge on the matter out of everywhere else I have looked!

Well went up there today to get some things, they were out of a lot of stuff but I still managed to get about 60 dollars worth of things for around 4 dollars ( after mail in rebates and amount returned in RR ) I am very pleased 🙂 Only gripe is that when they had the RightGuard last week they were out so I got a rain check and it was good for 4 free since I had the coupon as well. Well today they had 2 so I scooped them up and the cashier didn’t adjust my rain check so just took it so now I have to miss out on the other 2 free ones. Oh well, I still got lot’s of freebies 🙂

Ahhh see I wasn’t aware of that, thanks for the info! I have a new question if you don’t mind…. I got 2 seperate P&G Register rewards today one from a razor and one from Pamper’s brand diapersI think…. If I go tomorrow and buy Huggies brand diapers and the same razor and use both of those RR’s will I get another razor RR? I thought maybe I might since I am buying more than just the razor. Thank you so much for your help!
Dian says
Nettie,
No, they are all treated individually – so, the razor RR won’t print.
Sorry 🙁

Hi,
About 8 wks ago I’d written about having used register receipts to purchase Neuragen which was a rebate item. I’d applied $10 of RR to the purchase.
My receipt had listed the RR as a “Manufacturer’s coupon.”
I’d called Neuragen and asked if they would give the full amount back since they have issued NO $10 COUPONS to my knowledge. They said to submit it and most likely if it is not honored I could get my local Walgreens to issue store credit for the $10 lost and to call them if I had further problems.
Well, INSTEAD, I submitted a note with my rebate explaining that I’d USED store credit (how register rewards are referred to in our local papers) NOT a manufacturer’s coupon and thus expected the full $20 back as store credit should be viewed the same as any other form of payment. I did say that if I did not get my full refund due me, I’d never participate in another Walgreen’s rebate program of any kind. (This was entirely TRUE as I try products just to find IF I’d like them, not always buying something I’d have otherwise tried. By doing this I’ve ended up buying several products on a continuing basis that I otherwise would not have given a 2nd glimpse at).
Well, I’m happy to report they DID refund the correct amount.
I doubt that this would have happened if I had not written that note, but
when the situation was explained, Walgreens and Neuragen did honor their word. I thought they should be recognized for it.
NOW I will try the product. (Was keeping it intact in case I’d have to return it)
Thanks Dian, for encouraging me to go through with the rebate.
Nettie says
I had a feeling they would with or without a note. I don’t know how that specific product worked but all the mail in rebates I used at walgreens with coupons and RR’s I got my full amount back before coupons or RR’s. They say to mail in your receipt with the product circled…. the price for the full amount before anything is taken off is there next to it, that is what they go by.

i recently started couponing and my question is my store is having a sale 5 for $12 (12 pack coca-cola products) and my husband found a $1.50 off coca cola products and a nabisco cracker, the cashier actually did scanned the coupons and it went though without the crackers but in the last coupon she saw the picture on the face of the coupon and said she couldn’t do it??? then we had to buy the nabisco crackers, why this happened? and can i use my nabisco coupons combine with the $1.50 off coupons?thanks
Dian says
Natali,
You have to purchase what the coupon requirtes adn it sounds like it says you have to buy Coke and Nabisco.
Then, you can’t use the Nabisco coupons with the $1.50 off Coke and Nabisco because you are already getting money off with the other coupon.
I know it sounds confusing but, if the 1st coupon said Buy 1 Nabisco get $1.50 off Coke – then you could use a coupon on the Nabisco with that one because you are paying for the Nabisco, but, since the coupon says you are getting $1.50 off the purchase of 2 items you can’t get any more money off of one of the 2.
Make Sense?

I started my first Walgreens purchases this weekend with the Pro Glide Razors sale for $9.99, used $4 MFR Q and received $5 RR. I am curious as to what I can and cannot use the RR’s for, and could I use them in another deal that would print a RR for a different item? I feel like such a newbie to the Catalina’s. Help is much appreciated!
P.S. I had the $2/2 Reach Toothbrush coupons, and their sale was for $0.99 each. My store was out, but the manager went ahead and did the transaction like I had purchased my toothbrushes, and said she will contact me when they get some, since my coupon expired 5/21! I had no idea they did this, and I Love our new Wags!!!

Dian,
I just shopped at Walgreens for the first time today.
Thanks!
Leighann

Hey just so you know I had the same issue with not getting the RR to print when I did the Thermacare deal. I have been reading that a lot of people are having this issue. I explained it to the manager and she went over everything to make sure it was all done right and it was. She gave me a paper to mail in to have my RR sent to me. Maybe go back and ask for one or call corporate and see if they can fix the situation? Just my opinion. Not looking forward to waiting 6 to 8 weeks for my RR to get to me!
Leighann says
Thanks Nettie! I’ll probably call corporate since the manager was clearly frustrated with me. I’m not sure I’ll go back to Walgreens again. I may just stick with CVS.
Nettie says
No problem, I just started couponing about a month ago, I mainly stick to Walgreens because they have so many ways you can use coupons. If you have another one in your area I suggest trying it out before stopping altogether, I have gotten sooo many amazing deals shopping there. It does get a little frustrating but if you can find one that is friendly it makes it so much better. 🙂
Dian says
Leighann,
Catalina is who provides the RR’s not Walgreens, if they don’t print you can call them.
However if the manager told you it was because you used coupons, he was wrong and he needs re-training.
1-800-8CATALINA or email them at catalinamarketing.com
The register counts the RR’s as coupons – so, you need to have as many items or more than coupons. That is probably why you had an issue. Sounds like you had 7 coupons and 6 items.
I Hope That Helps,

ok so if I go to walgreens and I buy 3 items that will give me a rr will I get 3 rrs’s ? also if I have 6 items I use 5 manufac coupons, 1 store coupon and 1 rr from another order that was not for the same item. will it give me the rr’s or do I need to add another item? I want to make sure i do this right or i will loose over 10 bucks in rr’s. thank you
Dian says
aleasha » Yes, if you purchase 3 different items and they all say that you will get 1 RR each then you will get 1 for each and that would total 3.
On the second question, add a filler item – the register counts items and coupons and they have to match or the items have to outnumber the coupons.
I hope that helps!
Happy Shopping!

Ok in regards to my ????? Earlier. If you use a in store coupon but get 3 items and that coupon is good for thous three items does it count as 3 coupons and I would need to add 3 fillets?
Dian says
No, store coupons don’t count against those totals that the register counts, only the manufacturer coupons and RR’s.
Sorry, I misunderstood the question earlier!
Thanks!

thank you for responding so fast and thank you for the help. this week they have some great deals. i do have one more ?? for you thou. the crackerfulls ritz i dont see thous on the add its self. is it advertized somewhere else?
aleasha says
i found it thank you its on the site. dummie me.
Dian says
aleasha » No dumb questions! We are all still learning everything all the time! Feel free to ask anything anytime! It was in some ads, but they have signs on the registers warning that a supply issue means that some stores won’t have any and they may not have the Smart rinse either. they are substituting these:
Nabisco Wheat Thins 10 oz
Triscuit 9.5 oz
Ritz Crackers 16 oz
Ont he Smart Rinse they say they aren’t having a replacement item and they won’t issue rainchecks for those and are blaming Listerine for the shortage…
Hope that helps!

Leighann says
Dian,
Does an in-ad coupon count as a store coupon or a mfg coupon?
Thanks!
Leighann
Dian says
Leighann » An in-ad coupon counts as a store coupon cause it’s in the store’s ad.
Hope that helps!

Thank you! I just wanted to double check before I wrote to CATALINA about another issue so I didn’t sound dumb.

Ok, I have been reading comments from a lot of people on other coupon websites saying that they have been using B1G1 free coupons for the Dove Men’s bodywash on sale this week for 4/$15 with $5 RR printing. They say that they are getting 4 of them and using 4 B1G1 coupons making them ALL free and getting the RR.
My question is… that’s not right is it? I thought you couldn’t do that unless there was a B1G1 promotion at the store and you used your B1G1 coupon on top of that. Am I missing something here, or isn’t that coupon fraud?
Dian says
Nettie,
I thjink what they are doing is – purchasing 8 and getting 4 :fr:. Then using 4:
$4/1 Dove Men+Care Body and Face Bar 6/26/2011 RP Insert (exp 7/24/2011)
to pay for the others and then getting back the :rr:
That would make them all :fr: with overage plus the :rr:
Hope that helps!
Dian
Nettie says
Yeah that’s what I thought too but I asked and they said that they were only getting 4 and only using 4 B1G1 coupons. I am assuming they happened to have a cashier that didn’t know what she was doing. I just wanted to make sure that you can’t do it that way, I thought it was too good to be true and didn’t want to go do the same thing and it be wrong. Thank you for getting back so fast. 🙂
Dian says
Nettie » You are right and very welcome!
Thanks!

Wendy says
How many RRs can I use in one transaction?
Dian says
Wendy » Well, that’s a new question! I don’t know of any limits on them. I re-read their policy to make sure it isn’t mentioned. So, I would say it would be up to your store if they would impose a limit on how many you can use.
Just remember, you can’t have more coupons or Register Rewards than you do products.
Happy Shopping!

Hi!
I am recently new to extreme couponing and am loving it so far. But I must chime in on this discussion. Walgreens is definetely not my favorite place to shop. I feel that they are too strict on their RR. CVS is much more flexible with their rewards program and I will always shop there first.
I have had a few problems but never anything that a manager couldnt’t resolve. What I have learned to do is be very careful. For example, if I am buying 4 items I will probably have 4 manufacturer coupons and then 4 Walgreens coupons (which is fine). But then if you try and add your RR they will not take it. So I have learned to just pick up one more very inexpenisve item like a 10 cent folder or school eraser. Then I have 5 items, 4 manufacturer coupons, 4 store coupons, and my RR. Even though I have strategically planned all of this in my head before I go to the store something always seems to happen. Like my coupon won’t scan or my RR won’t print out. (By the way, if this happens the manager can either refund you the item or give you a rebate form for the catalina.) But I still usually manage to get a great deal and then its on to the next one. I just wish Walgreens would be a little bit more flexible and helpful like CVS.
Dian says
Yes at Walgreens the cash register “counts” coupons and items and they have to match up. You must have the same amount or more items than coupons, and it “counts” Register rewards as coupons.

Are these rules still in effect? I see the date on here is from a few years back.
Dian says
Laura » For the most part they are. they recently added a new program The Balance rewards and it comes with a Loyalty Card.
Here is the info on that:
