I Saved 90% at Walmart!

in Most Recent on 07/20/12

Shopping Brag

I had a very small trip to Walmart this week because…well… my cupboards runneth over.  I haven’t been able to get to the shelter in a few weeks and I’ve got too much stuff.  I could always use more Glade though.  Remember to follow me on FaceBook, Twitter, or Subscribe to my Daily Email to never miss a deal.  Let’s take a look!

8 Glade Expressions refills – $1.98 each – I used the $2.00/1 coupon for Glade Expressions from SS 7/15 – Final: :fr: with $.02 overage each

1 Glade Expressions Starter kit – $2.98 – I used the $2.00/1 coupon for Glade Expressions from SS 7/15 – Final: $.98

1 Fast Classics meal – $5.98 – I got a coupon for a :fr: kit from Fast Fixins so I could try this for a review (Quick review – Pretty good!) – Final: :fr:

30 oranges – Normally $.74 each, I price matched El Rancho to 15/$.99 – Final: $1.98

6lbs of Roma Tomatoes – Normally $1.24lb. I price matched El Rancho to 3lbs/$.99 – Final: $1.98

1 Pineapple – Normally $2.79, I price matched El Rancho to $.99 – Final: $.99

All together I got $57.23 worth if food and other products for just $5.77.  That’s a savings of $51.46 or 90%!

How did you do this week?

Have you ever had them call customer service because you saved too much? Had a problem a few weeks ago — they rechecked all my coupons (which all were valid of course).

Yeah, it happens. Usually it’s a newer cashier that is scared to death they are going to do something wrong. Just roll with it.

Did you know that Walmart can ban you from their stores, for life, for any reason, if they feel that you are a difficult customer, or if you are constantly challenging their coupon policies (which seem to change daily depending on the store you go to, or the cashier that particular day), and there is nothing you can do about it? I used to coupon all the time at Walmart, and would spend 2-3 hours in the store each time. However, I found that I was constantly being followed around by their security people (look for the guys that are dressed like high school kids, have IPOD earphones attached to their cell phones and pull random items from the shelves without any carts or baskets). I can’t stand Walmart anymore. They try to portray the store as being customer friendly, but that is the farthest from the truth – they treat customers like criminals, especially people that coupon , and assume that customers that coupon, and spend 1-2 hours or more in the store don’t have any money and are trying to shoplift. Most Walmart cashiers don’t understand the store’s coupon policies, they don’t know how to match buy one get one free deals, they think that in order to match the Kroger 10 for $10 deal, you have to buy all 10 items, and the cashier usually gives you some excuse not to honor your coupons, or if the coupons don’t scan properly (especially the manufacturer coupons with the 3 tiny bar codes at the bottom) they will refuse to honor the coupon. Plus if you forget your coupons, and try to go back to customer service and have your coupons applied, they will tell you that you have to use your coupons at checkout (some Walmarts will honor your coupon after checkout, but it really depends on the person helping you). It has gotten so aggravating shopping at Walmart lately, plus they don’t double coupons, so I have been switched my shopping to Publix, Kroger, and Target. Target can be a hassle at times, when they only let you use 3-5 coupons at a time, but at least they match prices, they let you use a store coupon and manufacturer coupon, and you can go back and have your coupon applied if you forget your coupon when checking out. I would love to hear if anyone else has had any similiar experiences shopping at Walmart. I have to laugh outloud when I see their commercial when the checkout girl says she will price match the item on the spot without an ad – they won’t price match anything without the ad, even though it clearly states this fact on the signs at each register. They also will usually argue with you if you try to use a competitor’s coupon. Walmart is not pro-customer, they are anything but friendly, and they constantly make up their own rules if they don’t feel like honoring your coupons or their own policies.

Unfortunately, every Walmart takes on the character of it’s manager and there are quite a few managers out there that simply do not know what to do with couponers. They see paying for things with little slips of paper as theft and every coupon user as thieves. However, that is not their corporate coupon policy so there are things you can do to fix some issues.

      1. If someone from security is following you around, ignore them. Yes I know it’s annoying and I had it happen to me once but who cares, they have just as much right to be there as you do.

      2. If someone doesn’t understand the store policy, remember that everyone has a boss. The first few times something like this happened to me, I told the Store Manager what happened and if things didn’t happen to my satisfaction I called the 800 Customer Service number and told them the situation along with the cashier’s name. After the third time, the Store Manager figured out that I wan’t playing around and started handling issues in-house so he could stop getting calls from corporate. Things will change but you have to work to change them sometimes.

      3. If you go to customer service and they still won’t take your coupon, return those items. Sometimes it’s easier to just try again later.

I started shopping at Walmart at the same time their Ad Matching policy started so we’ve kind of grown up together, sometimes they need someone to remind them of their policies. I have VERY few issues at my Walmart now because of taking these steps and now my shopping trips are much more pleasant experiences. I know that reading this you might think, “But that’s not my job! They should already know this stuff!” and you’d be right but sometimes it takes a little pushback to get what you want. Remember that it’s your money and you want to fight to keep it.
