Teenagers have questions. Lots of them.
Some are simple, and some will make you stop and think before you even attempt to answer. They’re figuring out what they believe, why they believe it, and how any of it applies to what they’re dealing with right now.
That’s one of the reasons I was interested in taking a closer look at the CSB Teen Study Bible when it was sent to me.
A Teen Study Bible That Takes Their Questions Seriously
My husband and I were youth pastors for more than 20 years, so we’ve spent a whole lot of time talking with teenagers about faith, life, relationships, doubt, pressure, and all the things they don’t always feel comfortable asking out loud.

It feels approachable without treating teenagers like little kids.
It Helps Teens Dig Deeper
Reading the Bible and understanding the Bible aren’t always the same thing.
Adults can struggle with certain passages, so we certainly can’t hand a teenager a Bible and expect them to immediately understand the history, context, people, and meaning behind everything they read.

Teenagers are dealing with a lot more than homework and what they’re going to wear tomorrow.
They’re trying to understand who they are. They’re facing pressure from friends, social media, school, relationships, family situations, and a culture that’s constantly telling them who they should be and what they should think and believe.
They may also have questions about God that they’re afraid to ask because they think they’re supposed to already know the answers.
A good teen study Bible should make room for those questions, not pretend they don’t exist.
This one includes topical articles that address more complicated questions about faith. It also uses “Learn, Love, Live” callouts to help teens move beyond simply reading the words.
They’re encouraged to learn what the Scriptures say, understand why it matters, and then live it out.

The CSB Translation Is Easy to Read
This Bible uses the Christian Standard Bible translation, commonly called the CSB.

There’s nothing wrong with encouraging young people to stretch and learn, but they shouldn’t need a decoder ring just to understand the sentence they’re reading.
The language in the CSB is clear enough for teens to read on their own while still remaining faithful to the meaning of the original text.
I had a Pastor once that said to always check any version against Isaiah 7:14 – believe it or not some versions changed “a virgin will conceive…” to “a young woman will conceive”. So that is the first thing I checked.

Churches and youth ministries could use it for baptism gifts, outreach, discipleship, or recognizing students as they move into or out of the youth group.
After spending more than 20 years in youth ministry, I can tell you that giving a teenager a Bible of their own matters.
You can’t force a young person to read it, and you can’t make their faith decisions for them. What you can do is place a solid resource in their hands and let them know that their questions are welcome.
You can give them something that helps them open the Bible for themselves instead of always depending on someone else to tell them what it says.
My Final Thoughts
What stands out to me about the CSB Teen Study Bible is that it respects teenagers enough to take their questions seriously.
It doesn’t talk down to them, and it doesn’t expect them to understand everything without help. It gives them Scripture along with practical tools that can help them study, grow, and begin building a faith of their own.
