DIY Baby Sling In 5 Minutes
Well, here’s a DIY Baby Sling that will take 5 minutes and cost you nothing! Making this baby wrap in a creative way and giving yourself a new DIY challenge is a great option or a great gift for any new parent and new mom.
This weekend our last child left the nest. I am not sure, yet, how I feel about that. A lot of stuff has certainly changed since I had my first child so many years ago.
The baby swings we had back then had to be hand wound with a little crank that made a terrible noise that woke the baby every time you had to rewind it!
Car seats were nice to have but not required. The Diaper Genie was not around, and no one had a “Gender Reveal” party because no one was completely sure about the sex of the unborn baby.

By the time I had my last child, baby slings were all the rage – and I wanted one so badly, but with 4 kids, that was a luxury we couldn’t afford. They were expensive, and that money was better spent somewhere else.
But good news, someone gave me a woven wrap as a gift, and I was so thankful and used this long wrap for a long time and loved it! It made life so much easier.
So, when my daughter-in-law had our newest granddaughter 3 months ago, and I knew I was going to be babysitting once she returned to work, I went in search of a new baby sling wrap type of carrier to help me.
My daughter mentioned that I could make my own baby wearing front wrap cross carry sling… which was funny to me as I can’t sew and I am not crafty, so a sewing project was out… but I knew if she suggested it that it must be easy because she knew that, too!
She found a video on YouTube explaining how easy and how VERY cheap it was to make one.
I was able to make my own baby carrier and rest assured it can hold the weight of your baby and older babies, too. I was able to make it in 5 minutes without a sewing machine, and I use this baby wearer every day – the little girl LOVES it.
I have 3 and they are my favorite baby carriers. Not only does this sling put her in the best position for by using the top of your shoulder as support, without causing any pain to my back or shoulders. It also puts her in the most comfortable position while providing the neck support she needs.
She will be in this stretchy wrap all day – sometimes I am at my desk working, and I look down, and her eyes are wide open looking up at me, and then I look again, and she’s asleep. She is very content with it!
The best part is there are many creative ways you can make this baby sling carrier. Making it an ideal choice or great gifts for expectant mothers.
You can also make your homemade baby carriers in different sizes to keep your baby as comfortable in their natural position as possible while also fitting your body size.
To keep the baby safe I suggest testing your finished product with a baby doll to make sure it will be comfortable and can hold your baby’s weight.

For a pro tip choose your favorite fabric and sorts of materials like a breathable material for your own wrap like blends of cotton or jersey knits. Woven fabric is a good fabric choices since they have much stretch and are a breathable fabric.
Using heavier fabrics instead of a cotton blend in the winter is a great choice also to keep the baby’s legs warm. Just make sure the fabric has a great deal of stretch.
You can make this, RIGHT NOW, in 5 minutes with what you already have in your home!
I made a great video to show you how in simple steps:
It’s that easy. I can’t tell you how handy this is. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

What material is the shirt made out of? Watching you put it on , it looks stretchy. I also wanted to put a tip in for the video.when you have a black shirt on and making a black sling it makes it hard to see exactly what’s going on because the colors blend together .. Its a little confusing when you are putting the baby in to see the exact steps of doing so.. great idea on this project ..

Kay,
Thanks for the tip – just a black cotton t-shirt. I used 3 different ones, so they could be blends, too.
Thanks again for the tip and kind words!

Dana,
We loved it – I still have it in my closet for the next one. We used it for months on end.
Enjoy!
