The Living Room
The living room is typically the hub of activity in a home, so it’s prone to clutter and messes. Here’s how to tackle spring cleaning in your living room:
- First off, declutter your living room. Take stock of what’s there and got rid of anything that doesn’t belong, is broken, or hasn’t been used in months. Considered donating or selling items in good condition.
- Clean all surfaces in the room, including shelves, coffee tables, and TV stands. We recommend using a microfiber cloth or duster to remove dust and cobwebs.
- Make sure the floors are vacuumed or swept and the baseboards and corners get dusted. Tending to these small details is important so that your home is clean and inviting.
- Steam clean your furniture to freshen it up and remove stains. Before you start, check the manufacturer’s instructions to see if your furniture can be steam cleaned.

The Kitchen
When it comes to spring cleaning, cleaning the kitchen is one of the primary targets as it is one of the dirtiest rooms in the house. Keeping your fridge clean and empty of spoiled food are just some things to consider.
- Empty your pantry and fridge, toss expired food items, and donate anything you won’t be using. Wipe down the shelves before putting everything back in its place. It’s amazing how much more organized it will look now!
- Wipe down your countertops thoroughly, using a multi-purpose cleaner to remove any stubborn stains and grime.
- Scrub all surfaces, including the stovetop, oven, and microwave. I recommend using a live cleaner or vinegar to remove stubborn stains or waste buildup in the sink, dishwasher, or garbage disposal.
- For floors, mopping is the best way to keep your floors shiny and clean. If you have tile floors, I recommend using a grout cleaner to remove discoloration.
The Bathroom
The bathroom is another high-traffic room that can quickly get dirty and disorganized. Here’s how to tackle spring cleaning in your bathroom:
- When decluttering your bathroom, start by decluttering your cabinets and drawers. Remove expired products or items you no longer use, and then use drawer dividers and organizers to keep everything in its place. Having everything organized makes it easier to find the things you need quickly.
- Scrub your sink, toilet, bathtub, and/or shower with a cleaner appropriate for the surface. Using a lime cleaner or vinegar works best to tackle hard water buildup.
- Wipe down every surface in your bathroom, from the mirrors to the countertops and tile. Use a multi-purpose cleaner to ensure everything is clean and sparkling.
- Keep bath mats and shower curtains clean. If your shower curtain is machine washable, toss it in with towels during laundry day. Otherwise, use a bleach solution can be used to clean it in place.
- Make sure that your linen closet or towel rack is organized. Anything torn or stained gets donated, and what’s left can be organized by size and color. That way, everything is easier to find when you need it.

Home Office
Many of us now have a dedicated workspace at home, and keeping it organized and clean is important. Here’s how to tackle spring cleaning in your home office:
- I love organizing my desk space. So, I do this by throwing out any documents and papers I no longer need and organizing the rest in folders, binders, or boxes. I used a label maker and sticky notes to help me keep everything in order.
- Wipe down all surfaces, including the computer screen(s) and keyboard. Use a microfiber cloth and a computer cleaning solution to remove dust and fingerprints.
- Vacuum or sweep the floors regularly, and don’t forget to dust the baseboards and corners. You can rent a deep cleaner for the carpets, I bought the BISSELL Pro Heat 2X Revolution Pet Pro Full-Size Carpet Cleaner so I could do it myself, and I have to say I love it and use it often.
- Finally, take some time to re-organize your bookshelves and files. Donate any books you don’t need or use anymore, and make sure everything is sorted in a logical and accessible way.
