Does Walmart Owe You Money? It Might!

Does Walmart owe you money?  They might!  According to Coupons in the News (One of my favorite blogs.  Go check them out.) Walmart reached a 5 Million Dollar Class Action Settlement because they refunded the tax wrong on returns.

I’ll quote from the Coupons in the News article here.

Back in 2012, Brandewie said he bought a computer router and a light bulb from a Walmart in Cuyahoga County, and was charged 7.75% in sales tax. When he decided to return them, he went to a differentWalmart in nearby Summit County, where the sales tax rate was 6.5%.

That Walmart refunded him the 6.5%. And Brandewie was out 64 cents.

He said the same thing happened to him two years later at Walmart-owned Sam’s Club. And Newbrough said he was shortchanged at a different Walmart, too.

So basically, for that buck and a half difference in tax, they filed a class action suit against Walmart and won and if you returned something and didn’t get the right tax amount refunded to you, you are eligible to get part of the payout.

Regardless of how much the difference was, if this happened to you, you are eligible for a $3 Walmart giftcard that could go up to as high as $15 based on how many people make a claim.

To make a claim, all you have to do is got to walmartsalestaxsettlement.com and submit your info.  It’s pretty easy to do .  I had a piece of jewelry I returned for my MIL a few months ago and even went to the trouble of getting my receipt out of my filing cabinet but it turns out I didn’t need it.  All they wanted was my personal info, what I returned, where I bought it and where I returned it.

Of course, it will be probably be a year or more before we get those big $3 giftcards but every little bit helps.  Please be sure to share this post so everyone has a chance to claim.  Thanks!
