Holiday at the Dallas Arboretum Featuring The 12 Days of Christmas PLUS Half A Million Added Lights!

Holiday at the Dallas Arboretum Featuring The 12 Days of Christmas PLUS Half A Million Added Lights!

Celebrate Dallas’ newest holiday tradition during the most wonderful time of the year with Holiday at the Arboretum, featuring the return of the magnificent 12 Days of Christmas outdoor exhibit from November 8 to January 3 and The Artistry of the Nativity at the DeGolyer House,November 26 to January 3 at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.

For The 12 Days of Christmas, 12 elaborate 25-foot-tall Victorian gazebos displayed in the 66-acre-garden are filled with the charming costumed characters, whimsical animals and winter scenes made famous by the beloved Christmas carol. Each gazebo is encased in glass and extravagantly decorated on all sides to provide a dramatic, three-dimensional experience that adds to its “music box” quality, depicting the old English carol from the Victorian era.

“Everything is bigger in Texas, including our holiday displays,” said Julia Van Fleet, Dallas Arboretum’s director of public events. “We debuted The 12 Days of Christmas last year to great fanfare and excitement, and this year, we’ve made it even more magnificent, especially in the evening.”

On certain evenings, the garden remains open for extended hours for The 12 Days at Night displaying the illuminated gazebos for magical viewings. New this year is the addition of 500,000 lights throughout the garden, trimming the architecture of the historic homes and lighting the canopies overhead-including a 30-foot-tall tree at the center of property. Van Fleet added, “Live music, special holiday performances, appearances by our favorite North Pole residents, and holiday sweets and treats make this evening display a one-of-a-kind, not-to-be missed family outing.”

In the historic DeGolyer House lavishly decorated for the holidays, The Artistry of the Nativity exhibition returns with 300 crèches from around the world. In addition to the Ray Harrington Collection, which the Arboretum owns, the George Dvorsky collection will return. Mr. Dvorsky’s long career on Broadway and a lifetime spent traveling has allowed him to amass a collection of unique and collectible crèches from around the globe. The DeGolyer House is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with guided tours, and on Wednesday evenings during the holiday season, it is open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In special celebration, Restaurant DeGolyer will be open for reservation-only dinners from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on these Wednesday evenings.

Holiday tea, Santa sightings and special activities round out a visit to the Dallas Arboretum.

The ceiling will be draped in green and red tartan to match the piper’s kilts, and a circle of horns adorned with roping and tassels will suspend from the ceiling over the pipe major. The pipers will also move in this gazebo.
