I got a few deals at Walmart this week but ended up missing out on quite a bit. Watch the video below to see why and how you can avoid the problem I ran into. but first, let’s look at what I could get.
9 Trial size sticks of Degree Deodorant are $.97 each. I used the $1.00/1 coupon from RP 7/31 to make them :fr: with $.03 overage!
I also got 4 trial packages of Tide detergent. They were also $.97 each but after the $1.00/1 from P&G 7/31 they were also :fr: with a $.03 overage.
So all in all I got $12.61 worth of products for :fr: with $.39 in overages! I could have gotten a TON more for :fr: but ran into an issue I explain in the video below.
How did you do?

Weird thing at my local Walmart. I had a large transaction, I had 27 items for a total of 64.07 used 25 coupons bringing me to 4.07 with tax of 5.77. My total bill was 9.84. The register automatically called over a csm because i “used too many coupons”. They really didn’t explain. They are not real coupon friendly. Csm came over and used her key and allowed the transaction. Great day of savings for me, but just weird. I never knew there is a “just right” number of coupons! LOL!

Dorinda » there actually is a set number that triggers that. I forget what it is at the moment but I run into it a lot. I feel like walmart is trying to become more coupon friendly, but haven’t quite gotten there yet.
diane says
It is 40 coupons or 40 dollars in coupons. Almost everytime i shop the csm has to come over and turn the key. Usually not a problem
Aarn Farmer says
diane » thanks. I couldn’t get to where I could look that up.
diane says
Thanks for the info about the p and g 4 like coupons. Planning a trip this weekend. we will see if it beeps for different items all from p&g.
Aarn Farmer says
diane » I’d appreciate you letting me know how that turns out. 🙂
Stfr says
Have you tried this at another store yet? I’m wondering if its the coding, and not Walmart
Aarn Farmer says
Stfr » I have not but it’s on my to do list
Stfr says
Wouldn’t surprise me if P&G made another change to their coupon rules.
diane says
Will do. Saturday is when I shop. I am in texas so we shall see what happens… I sure hope p &g didnt change their coupon rules and it was a walmart coding issue..

If you used the $1 degree cpn you misused the cpn. I have inserts from 4 different markets and all of them the $1/1 is only the premium. the other one is either $1/2 or 0.75/1 regular which is what is in the trial section
Aarn Farmer says
Barb M » Hey guys, thanks for all the questions. I must admit, you had me a little worried and doubting myself! The link below will take you to a pic I snapped of the Degree coupon and you can plainly see that both the premium and regular are $1.00/1. These coupons were found in the RP 7/31 from my local paper in Dallas/Ft. Worth TX. Please keep this in mind before anyone ever accuses someone of fraud or misusing coupons, give the benefit of the doubt and wait until all the facts are in. Thanks!

Just letting you know I got an error when clicking the link.
Aarn Farmer says
Stfr » Thank you so much for pointing that out to me before i went to bed! I forgot to set the privacy settings to public. Should be all good now.
Stfr says
Thanks for posting this, and good point!
Vicki says
I used for Cascade coupons with an assortment of Puffs and Bounty coupons at Raley’s with no problems.
Aarn Farmer says
Vicki » Good to know. It very well could have been the Walmart I was at. i think I’m going back tomorrow to do some matchups and will try again.
Tina says
It is because both items are P&G. The P&G coupons are coded, and some of the $1.00 coupons read as the same coupon. I have been doing the walmart deals in my area and have had no problem getting way more than 4 coupons to go through at a time. If you would have bought more items that were not P&G you could have used coupons for those items as well.
Also, I have been using my target, kroger, and meijer coupons at walmart for even better pricing. They have to manually input the coupon, but it’s really saving me a lot of money.
Aarn Farmer says
Tina » I didn’t think about them both being dollar off. I bet that’s it.
nicole says
Did anyone have a problem trying to use the $1.00 off tide coupon at walmart? the register beeped and they told me I couldnt use it. They finally let me after I explained to them that it did not exclude trial sizes.
Aarn Farmer says
nicole » I was able to get four without a problem. Did you have any other P&G coupons on that order?
nicole says
No, actually I only had two other coupons that time and neither were P & G. So did the register not beep when you got them?
Aarn Farmer says
nicole » Not until I hit the 4 limit. Not sure what happened. I think the individual stores are a little unsure of how to handle the new language
Misty @ Hopkins County Couponer says
yes, all of the p&g coupons begin with 37000. i bet the new DataBar Barcode is going to be causing a lot of problems like this. good to know that i’ll need to do 4 item transactions for any p&g coupon purchases i plan to make! seems like the situation could have been handled a little better. i can’t imagine why they didn’t just go ahead and break it up into separate transactions instead of trying to “get the register to cooperate”?
Aarn Farmer says
Misty @ Hopkins County Couponer » That’s definitely what will happen next time I just didn’t know what the problem at the time. It took me stepping away and thinking about it (And getting help and insight from other couponers) to grasp what the problem was.
Misty @ Hopkins County Couponer says
i just knew this new databar was going to be troublesome! i’ve noticed several retailers in my area, western ky, are not able to scan the databar, the cashiers cover the databar and scan the “old fashioned” bar code. it’s the stuff nightmares are made of!
Aarn Farmer says
Misty @ Hopkins County Couponer » Yeah, I’ve seen that also. Can’t wait to see how this whole thing shakes out.
