Ibotta Responds To Hacking Rumor!
I told y’all the other day about the rumor that Ibotta had been hacked.
They sent me this email yesterday, although today I don’t seem to be able to get in to Ibottaat all :/
Hi Dian,We recently saw that you posted regarding the events with our users related to their accounts becoming disabled, deactivated, or accessed by someone other than the owner. We wanted to confirm for you (and your readers) that Ibotta’s systems are 100% secure and have not been compromised. After a thorough analysis of the issue by our engineering team we were able to estimate that only a few hundred users (of our millions of users) were affected. This was a result of their email/password combinations being accessed on another site and then those same email/password combinations being used to log in to their Ibotta account.Since this occurred, our developers have been working diligently to implement additional security measures that we are confident will prevent Ibotta users from facing this problem in the future, even if their email and password information fall into the public domain.As always, we appreciate your support.The Ibotta Team
