My Weight Loss Story
Many of you said when I wrote about my weight loss and my secret revealed that you were interested in HOW I lost the weight.
There is alot of info I want to share on how, why, and what, so I will be doing this in a series of posts, so as not to overload you with info!
Here is the first in the series. I want to talk about what I learned and liked about the book that I told you about, Weigh Down Workshop and how I tweaked it for me.
There were things in the book I really liked.
1. Chocolate
The book said that God didn’t put chocolate on the earth to torture us. Well, that makes perfect sense to me. So, I liked that!
The whole premise behind the book is just eat what you want to eat, but, less of it! So, if you know you should eat less salt, sugar, fat, whatever, if you eat less you will be eating less salt, sugar, fat, whatever! Right?!
It’s like one of those DUH moments! Sometimes, you just have to hear it said – or at least I do! 🙂 So, chocolate is not bad, our stuffing ourselves full of it is the problem…
2. Exercise
This one I LOVED, see if it said I had to exercise – I was out! I don’t, I don’t want to, I don’t find the time, I don’t like to, I am allergic to exercise!
In the way this book teaches, exercise works against the plan – the plan is to eat less, to eat less you have to not overuse energy or you will need to eat more. See?
Keep in mind I was in bed for the first 40 lbs I lost. I had just had surgery on my Achilles and couldn’t walk or exercise! So, it does work!
3. Clean Your Plate
This was another – “well that makes sense” thing for me. The phrase “clean your plate”, according to the book (the whole series is not about the book, but this post is about what I learned and liked from the book), came from the depression era when people didn’t know when they would have another meal, or maybe they had breakfast and couldn’t eat again until dinner.
Well, such is not true in our lifetimes, praise God! So, there will be another meal and it will likely be in a few hours, you will survive without eating everything you see at every meal. I can say that because I have tested the theory and lived! 🙂
4. Skinny People
The book also said to watch skinny people eat.
My 3rd son is skinny skinny! So, one day after my surgery he got some fast food and came over and sat with me and ate and talked. I watched him like a hawk, and then something incredible happened!
He bit a piece off of a french fry and threw the other half in the trash bag! I stopped him mid-sentence and demanded to know why he would throw away a perfectly good fry!
He said because the other side was brown… WHAT?!! I saw it, it was brown, but it wasn’t molded or dirty or stepped on (I’m not sure, in the past, that any of those situations would have kept me from eating it!). I was shocked!
I have watched him eat alot of stuff over the last several months – basically if it is not pretty, he won’t eat it! If it doesn’t taste good he won’t eat it! ANDDD… if he isn’t hungry, he won’t eat it! What?! all of this was foreign to me! I mean I HAD to clean my plate! Bad, good, or ugly, the job had to get finished and I was your girl! 🙂
5. Stomach Growling
The book also says that when your stomach growls it is not hungry! It’s just your stomach acid digesting what’s in there!
So, truly – don’t laugh – but how many times in my life have I sat there and heard my stomach growling and said “I MUST be hungry”! lol What a joke!
I didn’t feel hungry, but , if my stomach was “talking”, well then I MUST be hungry and just don’t know it! lol
So, those are the things I started with. I picked those up from the book and I used those to my advantage. The book had tons more to say, but these were the things I was going to use.
Read all about my journey and how I lost over 100 lbs.

I have a friend who’s a dietitian (i don’t know if i spelled that right) and she told me one time, that EVERYONE would ask her “Is this healthy? can i eat this?” and she said–you can eat WHATEVER YOU WANT…its just about HOW MUCH you eat of it. All about portion control. I’m a very slender person myself, good genes mostly, but people give me crap when i eat things like icecream bars and candy–i told them, of course i will eat this, but i will also now INDULGE myself into it. I NEVER “clean my plate” instead, i listen to my body and stop when it tells me i’m full. I always love to pass that information around–portion control. It lets you enjoy more and whatever you want.

@Carolyn: You’re right! When the Dr. asked me what I was doing to lose weight I said put the fork down, he laughed and said “That’s all it is!” You know we as a people do NOT like being told what to do. I think that lies behind alot of this obesity!
Thanks for sharing!
