Are you tired of waiting in line at the grocery store? I know I am. I almost always shop for groceries online for convience – often late at night.

My daughter wanted to go to a thrift store yesterday and she went in before me because I was making a call in the car. I went in and the line was LOOOOONG!

I found her and asked if she saw that line, she laughed. She shops in store all the time – I rarely do, we spent at least 10 minutes standing in line AND saw 10 more things we wanted to buy…. so, there’s also a less expensive component when you think about those impulse buys while you’re waiting in line.

The Best Ways to Shop for Groceries Online and Save Time and Money

Online shopping helps save time, but delivery fees and other service fees can add to our expenses. However, even with additional costs, it’ i’s still a convenient way to save a few more bucks.

Fewer trips to the local grocery store mean less money spent on gas, parking, and snacks. I will say I may shop more times a week because it’s so convenient. Where I might have gone once a week or so in the past – I may make 3 orders a week now, because it’s so convenient.

Plus, online grocery apps are the best places for discount deals and promo sales, so it’s a great place to maximize your budget.

Keep Focused

Online stores always want to sell more. Promo deals and discount prices are everywhere. They may look like a great deal, but don’t be distracted. Always stick to the budget and shopping list.

I use Alexa and Google to make shopping lists. It makes it so easy when I am in the kitchen and I see we’re running low on something to just say “Hey Google add chicken broth and Diet Coke to the shopping list”. Then when I am ready to shop I say “Hey, Google what’s on the shopping list?” and she reads it to me. (I also use it when making a recipe online she reads it all for me and makes it super easy.)

Discount and bulk deals can be an exception. These offers can help us slash prices off pantry staples, so taking a peek is a good idea. You can score perks like free same-day pickup service and unlimited free deliveries, too.

Find the Best Options

The good thing about shopping online is it’s a one-stop shop for everything. We don’t have to switch aisles to browse. Which can save you money. I use the search feature and just search what’s on my list and I spend less because I stick to the list.

Online retailers also make finding alternative options easy. Swap pricy ingredients with more affordable ones and enjoy a few more coins in the bank.

Stack Coupons

Online grocery shopping sites are generous with promo codes. Almost every buyer has free shipping or special promotions, so always save them. Stack coupons for a discount and free delivery for the best price.

Check for an online grocery delivery service for an annual membership. For membership fees, you can get special member perks, like a free trial and same-day delivery.

Make a List

Shopping lists are still in! Add things you need to avoid getting sidetracked into impulse buys. Stick to your shopping list, but watch out for sales and discounts to help lower your bill.

Plan Meals

Meal planning takes more time and effort but saves more money than we realize. It helps us know what pantry items we need, which helps us set aside the right budget.

Stock Up on Non-Perishables and In-Season Items

Non-perishables like dry goods are exactly what the name suggests – they have a longer shelf life. Take advantage of this and stock up. It’ll save you the hassle of buying the same items over and over again, especially if you catch them on sale and can find an additional discount.

In-season fresh produce is often sold cheaper due to the higher supply available. Plan meals using in-season produce, allowing you to make healthy meals for less.

Check and Compare

There are as many grocery apps as there are physical stores out there. And just like competing grocery stores, the in-store prices of personal care items can be different.

Another perk of an online marketplace is browsing many apps simultaneously. We can easily compare prices and determine which app offers a better deal. Always go for the lowest price.

Save Time, Money, and More

Saving money can be challenging, especially when grocery prices are rising here and there. But the good news is, there’s always a way to save if we put the time and effort into it.

There are many creative ways to get low prices on weekly groceries. Generally, buying in bulk, stocking up on in-season supplies, and planning can help us maximize funds.

Many people hesitate to shop for groceries online. But it's actually worth it. Click here to find out how to make the most out of shopping for groceries online.
