Potager Cafe In Arlington, Texas
There is a quaint little place downtown (Arlington, TX) we enjoy eating at, so I thought I would take some pics and tell you about it!
It’s called Potager which is pronounced Poe toe jay – pronounce the Jay like French – zhjay – lol! Oh well, on to the important stuff!
According to Wikipedia:
A potager is a French term for an ornamental vegetable or kitchen garden. The historical design precedent is from the Gardens of the French Renaissance and Baroque Garden à la française eras. Often flowers (edible and non-edible) and herbs are planted with the vegetables to enhance the garden’s beauty. The goal is to make the function of providing food aesthetically pleasing.
Plants are chosen as much for their functionality as for their color and form. Many are trained to grow upward. A well-designed potager can provide food, cut flowers and herbs for the home with very little maintenance. Potagers can disguise their function of providing for a home in a wide array of forms—from the carefree style of the cottage garden to the formality of a knot garden.
At Potager, the food is prepared daily and you can choose from soup, salad, a main, and dessert. It’s all very healthy and organically grown. The woman who owns it tries to buy everything locally grown, when possible. All the dishes to choose from are written on a blackboard each day.
Today my husband had Crimini Mushroom and Fennel Soup – it was sooo good, and he had Pasta Primavera, and Creamy Hungarian Cucumber Salad. I had a Green Salad with walnuts and raisins, and Beef Pot Pie! Oh, soo good!
They had an AWESOME Carrot Soup, too! There is green tea and coffee to choose from.
All of the plates and silverware and napkins are mis-matched, as well as the furniture, it has an eclectic atmosphere.
Probably the most unique part of this restaurant is the fact that you pay what you want to pay. There are suggestions as to what to pay, but no one takes your money. They don’t accept debit or credit cards in the restaurant, so make sure you bring cash and you pay here:
There is a slit in the top of that watering can and you just drop it in there.
So, if you are in this area, you may want to take time to stop in at Potager. You can check out their site, too.
They also have a store called Potager’s Other Stuff. I will share about that soon!
