Podcast Show Notes

Find Your Joy – The reason you are spending too much is you find too much joy in whatever you can get your hands on now rather than finding joy in having money in the bank and being prepared for the future.

Keep the End in Mind – If you don’t know where you are heading, you will never know when you get there.  Where do you want to be in a year?  5 Years?  Have a goal so you know where you are heading.  Write them down.

Create a System – Before you can figure out where your money should go, you need to know where it’s going now.  Track every penny for 2 weeks to a month.  What jumps out at you?  Where can you cut?

Pay Yourself First – Take a percentage of your income and save it first.  If it’s gone, you won’t miss it.

Get a Routine – Make buying papers for coupons the first thing you do Sunday morning,  Make Sunday Afternoon the day you clip coupons and read the grocery ads for the week looking for deals (for example)

Keep Money at The Front of  Your Mind – Listen to frugal podcasts, subscribe to frugal websites, create reminders on your phone.  Whatever you need to do to stay focused on what’s important.  Remember that it is way easier to save a dollar than it is to make a dollar.

Make it a Family Affair – If you have a spouse or someone you are sharing your life and money with in some way, get them involved.  Schedule a meeting at the end of the month to sit down and review how you did and what the plan is for the next month.
