Why Time Management Feels Impossible (and How to Fix It)

in Family Living, Parenting on 01/22/25

Ever feel like you’re running a never-ending marathon as a parent?

Between work, school drop-offs, meals, laundry, and somehow keeping everyone alive (and semi-happy), it’s a wonder we even make it to bedtime.

Why Time Management Feels Impossible (and How to Fix It)

Let’s be real: most of us are winging it daily. We grab coffee, hope for the best, and maybe pray the wheels don’t fall off by 3 p.m.

Sound familiar? You’re not alone.

So… Where’s All the Time Going?

Here’s the thing. It’s not that we’re bad at managing time—it’s that life throws a million things at us, and we’re left spinning plates. It’s exhausting!

The truth is, we don’t need more hours in the day (although that’d be nice). We just need to use the ones we have a little differently.

A Few Tricks That Actually Help

Now, I’m not going to promise some magic fix, but these small changes can make a world of difference:

  • Time Blocking: Think of this as assigning jobs to certain times of the day. Work from 9–11. Chores from 4–5. Netflix after the kids are asleep. Simple, but super effective.
  • Batching Tasks: Instead of stopping every day for laundry, errands, or cooking, batch them. Do all the laundry in one go, plan meals for the week at once, or run errands in one big trip. Saves time AND sanity.
  • Get the Kids Involved: Yes, even the toddlers. Teach them to put away toys or toss laundry in a basket. It’s not always pretty, but it’s less work for you in the long run.
  • Tech Can Be Your Best Friend: Apps like Google Calendar or Trello can help keep your brain from exploding. Everything in one place? Yes, please.

Why It’s Worth the Effort

Here’s what I’ve learned: when you manage your time better, you get to enjoy more of it. That means sitting with your kids and actually listening to their stories (even the ones about Minecraft). It means fewer evenings of sheer exhaustion and more time for YOU.

Trust me, it’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what matters most—and doing it smarter.
