How to Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half with Simple Couponing Strategies

Years ago when my kids were eating me out of house and home, well the girl not so much – but the 3 boys and their never ending parade of friends… I was thrilled when one of the boys told me his friend’s mom couponed and they had tons of everything.

I immediately reached out and she was kind enough to share with me how to coupon, the right way, and I never looked back. That’s why I started this site – to help others in the same situation.

It takes a bit of work and dedication, but if you’re willing to put in the effort, coupons can help you save a lot of money on groceries.

With these simple couponing strategies, you can cut your expenses and save more.

Let’s get started!

Use Free Coupon Apps or Browser Extensions

Dozens of free coupon apps can help you save money when shopping at the grocery store. Some apps even offer exclusive deals that can be stacked on top of coupons or discounts already available.

You can also use an browser extension, too, which automatically applies any available coupons at checkout. Both of these methods make it easy to save money without manually searching for or clipping coupons.

Clipping Coupons From Traditional Sunday Newspapers or Flyers

The traditional way of couponing is still alive and well – clipping coupons from newspapers and flyers. Sure, it may sound like a lot of work, but I love it this way because if you plan, it can pay off big time.

Start by searching online for printable coupons, and then check your local Sunday newspapers and flyers for additional savings opportunities. This method gives you access to more variety than the apps alone, so it’s worth considering if you want maximum savings.

Check the Store App

I also recommend watching for store-specific sales and promotions by downloading their app or signing up for their mailing list. Stores often offer exclusive discounts through their apps or send promotional emails with special offers not advertised anywhere else.

You can also sign up for loyalty programs with exclusive perks like free shipping, discounts, and other rewards points that add up over time.

Use Coupons on Discounted Items

Did you know most stores allow customers to stack multiple coupons on discounted items? Coupling coupon savings with sale prices gives you some amazing deals on groceries.

Just a reminder to read the fine print before checking out and KNOW your store’s policies, as some stores have restrictions when stacking multiple coupons together at once.

Use Multiple Coupons on One Item

Another great way to maximize your savings is using multiple coupons on one item if allowed by the store policy.

For example, let’s say a box of cereal is $3 and is on sale for $1.50, but there’s also a manufacturer coupon available for $1 off one box – and if you’re lucky there’s also a store coupon for $1 off.

This couponing strategy means that if all three are applied to the same item at the checkout, you could get it for free!

Cereal
$1.50 – sale price
-$1.00 – manufacturer coupon
-$1.00 – store coupon
= Free, if your store gives overage – not only is it free but you made $0.50 on the deal!

Always Ask for Coupons and Price-Matching

Don’t forget about asking your cashier if they have any additional discounts or promotions available at checkout!

Many stores will happily price match competitors’ prices and even honor manufacturers’ coupons from other retailers, too – so never be afraid to ask!

Find In-Store Hidden Clearances

Many stores have hidden clearance sections with great discounts (up to 80% off and more)! To find out about these hidden gems before anyone else does, I recommend you find a Facebook group, Telegram, or follow couponers on Instagram to find in-store clearance deals.

This is a great way to get ahead of everyone else who shops there!

Expired Coupons

Another strategy is always making sure that all the coupons you have in your notebook, or wallet – however you keep them are valid before heading out shopping!

There’s nothing worse than getting excited about a great deal only to find at checkout that your coupon has expired. So make sure all your offers are current before heading out to the store!

Send those expired coupons to our troops overseas, they can use them.

Cut Your Grocery Bills In Half Now

Using coupons is an easy way to cut down your grocery bills and make sure you have enough money for other necessities like rent or other bills.

The key is knowing where to find good deals and combining those deals with additional discounts from store or manufacturer’s coupons.

With some planning and dedication, couponing can help you save hundreds of dollars each month just by shopping smarter!
