You know what I mean. Picking and choosing which recipe will be utilized on which holiday is one of my highlights of the year. I love thumbing through recipes and creating menus.

This year I bought a new recipe book to help with the fun. I purchased David Venable’s In the Kitchen With David, Comfort Foods That Take You Home cookbook and I am glad I did. I found tons of comfort food recipes but one recipe definitely stood out.
David’s Chocolate Cake! Ooooo if you watch David on In the Kitchen With David, you know I am doing the “happy dance” right now.
This classic chocolate cake is amazing you can use this recipe for chocolate cupcakes, and good news this is one of the easiest cakes I’ve made.
Tools You May Need
- Large bowl
- Parchment paper
- Tub pan
- Offset spatula
- Wire rack / Cooling rack
- Cake tester
- Plastic wrap
- 9-inch cake pans / Cake tins
- Large measuring cup
- Large mixing bowl
- Paddle attachment ( if your using a stand mixer)
Simple Ingredients You May Need
- Sour cream
- Espresso powder
- Olive oil
- Dark chocolate
- Chocolate chips
- Milk chocolate
- Almond milk
- Powdered sugar
- Icing sugar
- Cream cheese
- Natural cocoa powder
- Confectioners’ sugar
You can get any of these items at your local grocery store.
It was so amazing that I made it without icing. David gives a delicious icing icing recipe but I am a fan of icing less cake.
Imagine leaving this delicious cake for Santa instead of cookies this year.
Decadent Chocolate Cake
The most decadent chocolate cake you'll ever try.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder (not Dutch process)
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/4 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 3/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 3 cups of sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
Alternating Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups of warm coffee
Instructions
- Sift together the dry ingredients.
- In a mixer, mix together the wet ingredients listed above.
- Beat the wet ingredients until creamy and light.
- Add the 1/3 of the dry ingredients to the bowl. Beat the ingredients and add 1/3 cup of the buttermilk.
- Beat the ingredients and add 1/3 cup of the warm coffee.
Continue this process until all remaining ingredients have been used. - Bake the batter on 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
