DIY Coconut Oil Shaving Cream

Just keeping it real, y’all – once again, my daughter has come up with a great DIY for us (Full disclosure, I am not the DIY-er in the family 🙂 )!

For years – almost since the time she began shaving her legs, she had problems with razor bumps and razor burn.  I never really knew how to help her since I had never heard of that happening to anyone.

She tried lotions and creams and different oils – she shaved with them and used them afterward, she was even taking care of her razor blade by keeping it in a cool, dry place and nothing seemed to help.

Different Things She Tried:

  • Baby Oil
  • Essential oils with a Carrier Oil
  • Vitamin E Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Different Plant Oils
  • Aloe Vera gel
  • Cocoa Butter

She has been on a lifelong quest (such as it is – she’s in her 30’s 🙂 ) and has found a solution that works great for her, a natural homemade shaving cream recipe.  I have been using it, too, as I have a dry skin problem these days, and this helps!

I have also used it on my hands and arms as just a regular cream, too . All you need is a thin layer as a little goes a long way, and I love it!  It even works well as a coconut oil face moisturizer or a coconut oil face cream.

This has to be one of my favorite skincare products. Coconut oil is a great idea for a natural alternative to many everyday items.  If you use it as coconut oil for face moisturizer, just beware – the fragrance may make you hungry all day or make you feel like you’re at the beach – which could be a good thing :).

There are soooo many coconut oil uses. It’s so versatile.  You can cook with it, use it to shave with, as a moisturizer, even clean your teeth and possibly heal cavities!  We keep a good supply in our house at all times. You can even get it at your local store.

It’s also a very cost effective option unlike your typical shaving cream, plus it works great, unlike those cheap shaving creams out there.  It will fit right into your budget and help you shave some money (like how I did that?  shave?  lol) off the health and beauty aids bills.

So, without further ado here is her SUPER simple Coconut Natural Shaving Cream recipe:

Simple Ingredients You Will Need

  • Coconut Oil – cold pressed (the amount depends on your storage container(s)
  • 1 – 2 tsp Vanilla extract or a few drops of tea tree oil or your favorite scent
  • Plastic or Glass container with lid, a glass jar or mason jar will do just fine
  • Electric mixer or Hand mixer with a whisk attachment or beater attachment

Directions

  1. In a large bowl (a glass bowl will do) whip your preferred amount of coconut oil for about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Add in vanilla extract or preferred oil/scent ( almond oil is a good choice) with your mixer until combined well.

That’s it!  Just put it in an airtight container with a lid and you’re all set.

You can use it to get a closer shave on your legs or for a hand and/or body lotion, plus it’s great for sensitive skin.  I love it for all of the above.

It doesn’t melt or hasn’t so far for me, and I have kept it in my bathroom for about 2 months (to this point) in a glass jar, and it’s still whipped and works and SMELLS great! You can even give it as a homemade gift.

DIY Face Scrub: Coconut oil, juice from a fresh lemon, salt. Mix 2 parts coconut oil to 1 part fresh squeezed lemon juice and 1 part salt (roughly). Store in sealed plastic container in a cool place. Use daily to cleanse and moisturizer skin. Great for combination skin!
