Frugal Living: 10 Simple Ways to Save Money Every Day

Here are some easy money-saving hacks that can help you spend less every day.

What is Frugal Living

Frugal living means finding ways to save money on everyday things like:

  • food
  • bills
  • fun activities

It doesn’t mean being cheap, but it’s about being careful with your money. This way, you can save for the important stuff, like a vacation or a rainy day!

1. Plan Your Meals

Did you know that planning your meals can save you lots of money? Before you go to the store, make a list of what you need for the week.

This way, you won’t buy things you don’t need. You can even look for sales or use coupons to get things cheaper. You’ll also be able to plan items you can use across several meals and save.

2. Use Coupons

Speaking of coupons, I’ve always thought of them as money! It’s free money someone is giving you to shop with! You can’t beat that!

You can find them in newspapers, apps, or online. If you use a coupon for something you already need, it’s like spending someone else’s money!

3. Buy in Bulk

Buying in bulk means getting a lot of something at once, like a big pack of toilet paper or a huge bag of rice.

Even though it might cost more upfront, it saves you money in the long run because you won’t have to buy it again for a long time.

The theory behind frugal grocery shopping is to buy enough of something on sale to last you until it goes on sale again. Sales run in roughly 6-8 week cycles.

If you want to be more confident about how your store sales cycles run, you might want to grab my free price book (scroll down to the 2nd printable on the page and the video below it will also walk you through how to use it)! It will help you track and see the pattern at your favorite stores on the products you buy regularly.

4. Turn Off the Lights

This one is super easy! When you leave a room, turn off the lights. It helps lower your electricity bill, which means you have more money for fun things.

How many times in my life did my father tell me to turn off the lights or not stand in the fridge and stare? lol too many to count, for sure!

You can even unplug electronics when you’re not using them to save more.

5. Make a Budget

A budget is a plan for how to spend your money. What a great idea! lol I know!

Learn some budget-friendly tips to mix into your daily routine for long-term savings.

Write down how much money you get and how much you need to spend on things like:

  • food
  • utilities
  • insurance
  • rent
  • gas

Then, see how much is left for saving or fun stuff. It’s like a map for your money!

6. Look for Free Fun

You don’t always need money to have fun. Look for free activities in your community, like parks, libraries, or local events.

Playing board games or watching movies at home is a fun, free way to spend time too!

7. Shop Second-Hand

Second-hand stores sell clothes, toys, and other things that people don’t need anymore, but that are still in good condition.

You can find great deals on stuff that costs a lot more in regular stores. There are often overlooked treasures, too – one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!

8. Cut Down on Takeout

It’s fun to eat out, but it can be expensive. Try cooking more meals at home.

It’s cheaper, and you can make enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day! Plus, the added benefit of it being healthier for everyone, too

9. Try DIY Projects

DIY means “Do It Yourself.” Instead of buying new decorations, try making your own!

You can even fix things around the house instead of hiring someone. It’s fun, and it saves you a lot of money.

10. Start a Side Hustle

A side hustle is like a small job you do to make extra money.

You could:

  • walk dogs
  • babysit
  • sell things you don’t need anymore
  • become a virtual assistant
  • edit videos
  • tutor

There’s no end to the opportunities for a side hustle these days. The extra cash can help you save up for something special.
