Want more savings? There are different ways to make extra income on the side!

12 Ways To Make Extra Money On The Side

Who’s eligible to sell on Etsy? How much does it cost to start a store on the platform? To see the potential of running your side hustle into a full-time business, here’s your step-by-step guide to selling on Etsy!

Create A Free Account

First things first: Create your own account.

Go to https://www.etsy.com/sell, click “Get Started,” then follow the prompts

Open Your Storefront

After registering for an account, you need to select your shop’s country, language, and currency.

Etsy will also ask you to choose a shop name. This can be really tricky, especially if you don’t have one yet.

You can use unique words or phrases, combine two words together or use your own name!

You can change your shop’s name as many times as you want before your launch. However, once you launch your store, you can only change it once!

Stock Your Products

Account? ✔️

Name? ✔️

Now, it’s time to add the products.

For each listing, you can add up to 10 products.

To catch even more attention, adding a 5 to 10 second video will greatly help.

After adding the photos:

  • include the product description
  • choose a category
  • select the pricing
  • include your shipping information
  • then hit the Publish button

Choose The Shipping Options

When it comes to shipping, there are two options for Etsy:

  • Select the shipping preferences per product
  • Apply your shipping settings for your entire store

Decide How You Get Paid

Once your product listings are up, you need to let Etsy know how you want to get paid.

To do this, you need to add your payment information and connect your bank account to Etsy.

You can also use your PayPal or Visa and Mastercard to receive your payments.

Customize Your Storefront

You need to catch your customer’s attention as much as you can.

With Etsy, you can customize your storefront with different colors, fonts, photos, and more!

Since your storefront will be your customer’s first impression, make sure that you relay what your store’s vision is to them even at first glance.

Etsy allows you to run ads from their store.

However, if you’re still starting out and pretty low on budget, you can share your shop details through your different social media accounts.

You may also want to consider marketing on Pinterest too! With more than 450 million active users, this platform can increase your audience engagement and allow your shop to grow.

How Much Is It To Sell On Etsy?

Although creating an account on Etsy is FREE, there are some costs associated with selling on the platform.

Host Listing Fees

Each listing will cost you $0.20.

These listings will expire in four months and will auto-renew for $0.20 per item.

Transaction Fees

Etsy will collect a fee of 6.5% of the total amount that the customer purchased from the store.

This fee includes the total costs:

  • shipping
  • boxes
  • gift wrappers

Payment Processing Fees

There’s a payment processing fee, that’s a set rate plus a percent of the total sale price of your product. However, this varies per country.

Marketing Fees

Should you choose to take advantage of the platform’s advertising and marketing services to promote your store and your products, there are certain fees that can apply, depending on the ads like:

  • Your Etsy ads
  • Offsite ads

Who Pays For The Shipping Fee?

It totally depends!

You have the option to have your customer pay the shipping in addition to the items they purchase or you can also cover the fee.
