What is Spring Cleaning?

Why do we call it spring cleaning and not summer or autumn cleaning? Spring cleaning means it’s time to get our checklist and give our houses well-deserved cleaning.

After a long winter, spring brings lovely warm weather and signifies new beginnings and longer days. We can finally open our windows and enjoy the sunlight and fresh air without getting frostbite!

All the new experiences we can enjoy after winter makes spring the best time to open our homes and clean for a fresh start. Hence, the term spring cleaning.

Tips To Get Started with Spring Cleaning

Now that we have a good idea of what spring cleaning is, it’s time to get our hands dirty. Here are some simple and easy tips for a spring cleaning checklist that we can use to start our spring cleaning activity for the best results!

1. Plan

List all the areas you want to clean, prioritize them, and set a realistic timeline for each task. Having a plan or checklist helps us stay organized and focused.

Plus, we can check all the areas of the house that need cleaning, like the living room,  laundry room, and office.

2. Declutter

After creating a checklist, it’s time to start with our first task: decluttering.

Go through drawers, closets, and cabinets and get rid of everything you no longer need, like expired items, an old toothbrush, a broken shower head, or pressure washer, and don’t forget food items.

If it’s still in good condition, donate or sell these items and throw them away only if they’re broken or unusable. The less clutter we have, the easier it will be to keep everything clean. Because that’s half the battle – once you’ve cleaned and organized, you need to keep it clean and organized.

Once we’ve decluttered, it’s time to clean our home deeply.

This includes thoings like:

  • dusting
  • vacuuming
  • wiping down all surfaces
  • including baseboards and light fixtures

Remember to thoroughly clean hard-to-reach areas, such as the tops of shelves, glass surfaces, and kitchen cabinets. A deep cleaning may take some time, but you’ll be glad you did it

Also, don’t forget the things that accumulate dust and pet hair, such as:

  • ceiling fans
  • shower curtains
  • washing machines
  • door frames

Clean windows with a DIY cleaning solution by mixing white vinegar and hot water for a streak-free window.

4. Organize

Now that we’ve cleaned and decluttered, let’s organize.

Invest in storage solutions, such as:

  • bins
  • a medicine cabinet
  • cleaning supplies
  • baskets

to keep items organized and easy to find. Labeling containers can also help keep things tidy.

Ensure everything has a great place, and return items where they belong after use. Organizing things in every inch of your home is the best way to have a clutter-free home.
