I just wanted to check in with everyone who is trying to drop some pounds this new year. I don’t have scales to weigh myself, so I won’t know until I go back to the Dr. in a few weeks.
That’s probably good for me though, otherwise I make myself crazy weighing everyday or even more! So, I have to wait until the Dr. tells me, but, that’s also good because it’s a larger number I get to hear, rather than watching it pound by pound.
I am doing a combination of things. You all know I am still in bed after my surgery, the Physical Therapist said he hopes to have me standing by the end of the week, YAY! I can go shopping soon! Back to weight loss, I have drastically cut down how much I eat, that’s because I was drastically overeating! lol
I had a slaw dog for dinner the other day and a teaspoon of coleslaw on the side with about 6-9 Pringles. I was telling my husband that last time I had slaw dogs for dinner, I ate 3, and a few tablespoons of cole slaw and many more chips! I cannot believe how much I was eating!
Now I am full all the time, I eat when I am hungry and stop when I am not. I am eating the same things, with a few tweaks – but, I don’t want to change everything drastically, that works out to be negative in my head and I know I will just go back to the way I was eating before, eventually. So, I eat the same things, just less.
We know that it’s important to watch cholesterol, fat, carbs, & calories, but, I read (and it was a DUH moment for me!) that if I eat the same, just less, I will be cutting down my cholesterol, fat, carbs, & calories!
I did go from 4 teaspoons of sugar to 3 in my coffee each morning, and once I can get up and around, I plan to change the “white stuff” to brown, ie: flour, pasta, etc. I also heard that guava juice is sweeter than sugar and I plan to try that as well. But, now I have to balance frugal with healthier – I mean c’mon there are a ton of free things and very low cost things we buy in bulk on sale that aren’t good for us.
I know at one point, I probably had 100 cake mixes, frostings, and brownie mixes, not to mention the enormous supply of Warm Delights and Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa – all free or pretty close to free! Oh, don’t get me wrong, I will still buy them, just probably not consume them, after all it’s all about the “sport” of getting things for free! lol
So, it’s your turn to spill, how much have you lost or if you’re having trouble losing, share that, too.
Also, how are you losing? What works or doesn’t work for you?
What advice can you give us all. Need support? Speak up!

Oh Girlfriend! Let’s talk weightloss indeed! Well, I too have started changing my life. Not just eating less, taking my time when I eat, taking vitamins, taking sips between bites, making a conscience effort to wait for real hunger before I eat and purposely serve myself smaller portions. I don’t skip breakfast, I am just eating smarter I think. I still make an effort to buy light stuff (dressings, sour cream, etc.). I have always drank diet drinks but I don’t go through a 6 pk a day anymore. I also have tried to shift my focus from food onto building a better relationship with God through prayer and studying my bible and by meditation and I write everything down in just a regular 10 cent notebook that I stocked up on at back to school sales. On the front of the page, I write a journal and always remember to Thank God for the day and on the back I write down everything I ate and at what time. I also concentrate on my family more. I also joined Weight Watchers at the beginning of January with a monthly pass but I cancelled it because I only counted points for 2 days and mainly use it to Weigh in everyweek. Since Thursday, January 13th I have lost 10.1 lbs. My WW pass expires February 10th and then I can go and weigh in at the hospital for free. I have also been researching diets online and found one called the 3D your whole life diet and most recently the belly fat cure with Jorge Cruise. You can see all his videos on youtube for free and he even has the support of Dr. Oz and has been featured on Oprah. I also have that 5 year old boy and 2 1/2 year old girl to run after. I will keep you posted on my weight loss. The most important point is that I have given up on doing all on my own and have asked God to help me and he has not let me down. I think it is so very important to really think about and work on the reasons (mental, emotional) that make you run to food for comfort. I quit smoking after 20 years! I did it 6 years ago when I first found out that I was pregnant with my son. I had suffered miscarriage with my first two pregnancies and this time I knew I had to give up that disgusting habit. I chose my child over cigarettes. I think I can finally choose my life, my God, my family over food addiction.

Okay girls!! This is my favorite subject. I am down 35 pounds and have way more to go. I use to drink soda and wondered how did people just drink water. Well I have not had a soda since DDec 28, 2008. So if I can do it so can you. Now on the other hand exercise is my worst enemy!!!! I just can’t seem to do it. I even have a gym membership. I have had it for 6 months now and went twice and one of those times was the day I sign up and was shown the equipment. BUT now I found hope. I do Sparkpeople.com and it is FREE, I tell you it is FREE!!!! I track my food. You set up a page almost like FB and you pick teams to be on to help you. Trust me there are tons of weight loss going on here. Please feel free to check my page out. my.sparkpeople.com/KITTIKATKITTY There is so much motivation and support. So many articles and idea’s. I love it now. Let me also mention that a lot of Weight Watchers foudn this page and stopped going and saved money by using SP instead. Please check it out and stop by my page and leave a comment. YOu know you can even start your own team of the deals you find. I was on one of those type teams but not too much activity there. I would be there if you do it. Let me know.
I am down 35 pounds and 2 pants size all due to sparkpeople. I know if I would just exercise I would do more. Oh and I will. I am not giving up. I really hope to see you all there.

I have decided to start my weight loss today! I made my new year’s resolutions for Feb. 1 instead of Jan. 1 because we had 4 birthdays in Jan. and the parties were too many to worry about weight loss. So here I am Feb. and just starting. I need to lose 20 – 25 pounds. Exercising is hard for me because I broke my back in 4 places about 20 years ago, so I have to be careful. I’ve tried to diet before but never seem to lose much. I have a hard time with motivation. I like competition and rewards to I thought it would have been fun to start my own Biggest Loser competition with weekly “winners” and everyone would send a small gift ($5.00) to the bi-weekly or monthly winner, etc. Prizes and competition definitely motivate me. But…I couldn’t find anyone to do it with me so I’m back to trying to motivate myself. Good luck to everyone!

Stefanie,
I LOVE your competition idea! How creative!
I think the thing that we have to get in our heads now, is NO more dieting! It HAS to be a lifestyle change, something you can live with. Like I said for me, I am eating the same, basically, just less. My Dr., when I told him that said, “It’s just that easy.”
Congrats on setting your mind to do it! Very Good Luck and Blessings in getting it done! Keep us informed on your progress!
Thanks!

One person I know gave all her friends $5 for them to buy her something as rewards. She asked them to wrap them. She would set a small goal and everytime she made that goal she would pick a present. She kept them at work so she wouldn’t cheat. I loved that idea. The goals can be anything like no soda for a month, 5 pounds for a month go for a walk 3 times a week for a month and so on. What a great idea. She said most of her friends encouraged her and bought her a little more. I totally love this idea of rewarding yourself. 🙂

Penny,
This is a great idea! How creative! I wish i had thought of it, maybe I could do the same. My mom is visiting and she loves to shop – maybe I can enlist her help!
Thanks!
