Weird Walmart News

Walmart is going paperless! (kinda…)  So before we talk about this, let me tell you about Home Depot.  I shop at Home Depot about as often as I do Walmart, in other words, I’m in there very often.  So often, in fact, I signed up for their Pro Rewards program that gets me several benefits and discounts.  By far the most important benefit is they send me an email with my receipt every time I shop there.

I can’t even tell you how awesome this is.  Every time I need a receipt, it’s a Gmail search away.  No more scrounging through a bunch of receipts and no more store credit on returns because I can’t find my receipt.  It’s awesome.

So when I heard (through Coupons in the News) that Walmart is rolling out a similar paper-less system I was onboard and excited!  It is being rolled out over the next few weeks so you may not see it yet.  When it hits your store, you will just type in your cell number and receive a high quality picture of your receipt through text message.  If you head to Walmart.com and and attach your cell number to your Walmart.com log in email, you will also receive an email of your receipt.  Walmart will also send you digital coupons  to use at checkout.

This is different than a loyalty card program in that if you don’t want to use the system, you will get the same prices as everyone else.  (As opposed to the Kroger or Safeway loyalty program where you pretty much have to join to get the best price on most products.)

In short, this promises to be a great program that will keep all those receipts neatly organized in your inbox.  Can’t wait to see this happen!
