in Cleaning Tips And Tricks, Essential Oils, Family Living, Household Hacks on 05/21/25

Glass surfaces can be such a pain. One minute everything looks clean, the next there’s a haze, a streak, or a smudge right in the center of the mirror.

Most store-bought sprays leave weird residue or overpowering smells. This DIY version? Totally different. It leaves everything sparkling, smells amazing, and costs almost nothing to make.

A flat lay of DIY glass cleaner ingredients on a white surface, including a clear spray bottle, sliced lemons, essential oil bottles, cornstarch in a small bowl, baking soda, and a glass measuring cup of water.

Already switching to natural cleaning? Then don’t miss the full guide: Top DIY Cleaning Recipes with Essential Oils. It’s packed with all the good stuff—everyday cleaners, deep scrubs, and room sprays that actually work.

🧴 What Makes This One So Good

It’s all about the cornstarch. Sounds strange, right? But it’s the streak-fighting secret ingredient. Paired with vinegar for degreasing and essential oils for scent and bonus cleaning power, this glass cleaner checks all the boxes. It’s safe, effective, smells fresh, and doesn’t leave anything behind.

Great for:

✨ Mirrors
🪟 Windows
🚿 Shower doors
🔥 Glass stovetops
🖼️ Picture frames
🍽️ Glass tabletops

🧪 What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 10 drops essential oil (lemon, peppermint, or lavender are perfect)
  • Spray bottle like this one
  • Optional: funnel to keep it mess-free

🧼 How to Make It

Pour the vinegar and water into a clean spray bottle. Add the cornstarch and shake it up. Drop in the essential oil and shake again. Always shake before using—cornstarch loves to settle.

Spray directly onto any glass surface and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth like these for the best streak-free finish.
