Kohl’s is a very popular store in large part due to Kohl’s cash. Their Yes2You Rewards program is awesome, and their products are priced competitively. But, I have to admit, I was confused about their Kohl’s cash program. It can be confusing as it has many rules.

There are certain times you can get it, there are certain times you can use it. Plus there are certain ways it can be used, as well. The best thing is, if you DO know how to work it, you can save a TON of money at Kohl’s.

The one thing you DON’T want to do, though is let your Kohl’s Cash balance sit in your pocket and expire.

Let’s look at how we can earn and use Kohl’s Cash, it’s like getting cash back only it’s Kohl’s cash.

Check your Kohl's Cash balance online by logging into your account.
Learn how to earn and redeem Kohl’s Cash for discounts on your next shopping spree.

How Does Kohl’s Cash Work

Some might think Kohl’s Cash is actual paper bills that the store hands out. For starters, Kohl’s Cash is not legitimate money but a reward coupon. The coupon essentially functions as an additional discount on qualified purchases.

But, as you’ve heard me say time and time again – coupons ARE money as far as the store is concerned (if you use them right), so don’t throw money away!

Let’s get deeper into it!

Ways to Get Kohl’s Cash

Anyone can earn Kohl’s Cash in two ways. First, when you make eligible purchases sold during Kohl’s Cash promotions.

The dates for each promotion are published online. Plus, the amount of Kohl’s Cash you earn differs from one promotion to another.

For example, during a promotion, you can get $10 Kohl’s Cash for each $50 spent in a single transaction. The number of eligible purchases will determine how much Kohl’s Cash you get.

But don’t forget other discounts and taxes will also be applied. That means the more you spend, the more Kohl’s Cash you’ll earn!

The second way to get Kohl’s Cash is through the free Kohl’s Rewards program. As a member, you get 5% off your purchases and it will convert into Kohl’s Cash.

For example, you spent $100, so you’ll get $5. The $5 will be automatically converted to Kohl’s Cash on the first day of the following month.

Where to Get Your Kohl’s Cash

Getting your hands on your hard-earned Kohl’s Cash is easy. When you make an eligible purchase, you’ll receive a Kohl’s Cash voucher at the time of purchase in store.

You’ll also receive an email with the Kohl’s Cash coupon when buying items at Kohls.com, a Kohl’s Kiosk, or through the Kohl’s App. Normally you’ll get the email within 24 hours.

You can also print the coupon or not. But always keep a copy of the email, because you won’t get another one. You can scan the coupon using a mobile device, in-store at the register, or by adding it to your Wallet on the Kohl’s App.

Here are the steps when adding Kohl’s Cash to your Wallet:

  1. Open the Kohl’s App or visit Kohls.com.
  2. Choose ‘Menu’ at the top left-hand corner.
  3. Choose ‘Wallet.’
  4. Tap ‘Kohl’s Cash,’ then scan or manually enter the barcode.
Understand the ins and outs of how Kohl's Cash works and maximize your savings.
Get cash back in the form of Kohl’s Cash when you make a qualifying purchase.

How Long Does Kohl’s Cash Last?

Kohl’s Cash coupons have an expiration, and you’ll can check the date. Always check the Kohl’s cash expiration dates so you can use the coupons.

Also, there are only certain days you can redeem your Kohl’s Cash. It’s not valid before or after the dates on the coupon.

Also, keep in mind that your Kohl’s Cash is based on Central Time. So use it before you lose it!

Pro tip: you can create reminders on the Kohl’s App to use your Kohl’s Cash before it expires. But this trick only applies to the Kohl’s Cash you put in your Wallet.

How Do I See How Much Kohl’s Cash I Have?

You check your remaining Kohl’s Cash through the App. Just go to your Wallet and check your balance.

Another easy way of checking is to go to the website. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see a link to check your remaining balance. You’ll get redirected and then you just type in the coupon’s barcode; voila, your remaining balance will show up.

What Can You Buy With Kohl’s Cash?

Almost everything in the store is eligible for Kohl’s Cash coupons, except for Sephora products. Still, no minimum purchase is needed to use Kohl’s Cash on other items.

Also, just a reminder, you don’t get any change when you use Kohl’s Cash. For example, if you use a $40 Kohl’s Cash coupon for a $37 purchase, the $3 will not be available to be used in another transaction.

You also can’t use your Kohl’s Cash to purchase gift cards, and Kohl’s Cash is not usable on the following:

  • Any purchase from Kohl’s Cares or other donations.
  • To pay your Kohl’s credit card balance
  • To get a price reduction on a previous purchase
  • Cannot be exchanged for money

How to Use Kohl’s Cash

Using Kohl’s Cash is just as easy as earning it. And you can use these it in-store or on Kohl’s website:

In-store Purchase

At the checkout, just give the printed coupon to the cashier, and they will type in the 15-digit Kohl’s Cash number and four-digit PIN.

But please be aware that Kohl’s Cash will be applied before any percentage-off discounts. So, to get the most out of all your discounts be sure to work out the math… lol

Online Transaction

Using Kohl’s Cash for online shopping is like making an in-store purchase. Just find the 15-digit Kohl’s Cash number and four-digit PIN and type it in where it prompts you to.

Again, Kohl’s Cash will be applied before the percentage-off discounts. Plus, there’s a 4 Kohl’s Cash redemption limit per online transaction.

Returning Items and Coupon Stacking

Kohl’s allows its customers to return items within 30 days of purchase. The store will refund the whole amount you used if you bought the item with Kohl’s Cash.

On the other hand, your coupon will be reduced when you return an item you received from Kohl’s Cash. That is if the item’s price (total purchase amount) is below the total required to earn that Kohl’s Cash.

Can You Stack Kohl’s Cash?

Plus, Kohl’s also allows coupon stacking. You can use various coupons and discounts from Kohl’s on the same purchase. Kohl’s has a particular order for handing over coupons and discounts to the cashier (this is where you do your math I mentioned above 🙂 ):

  • Promo codes with a set dollar amount or percentage off will be applied to the qualifying items
  • Deduct any dollar-off coupons (Kohl’s Cash) from the subtotal
  • A single (and only single) site-wide percent-off coupon will be applied

Shop Hassle-Free with Kohl’s Cash

Shopping at Kohl’s is really simple, both online and in-store, especially with Kohl’s Cash. Kohl’s Cash is a fun and exciting way to earn while you shop.

Now that you understand how to earn and spend Kohl’s Cash, the only thing you need to worry about at this point is what you’ll buy!
