Let’s go!

One of my daughters-in-law is a master cleaner and organizer and her daughters are becoming the same at just 6 and 8 years old. I once asked the oldest to straighten up the “toy closet” at my house and she re-organized the entire walk-in as well as her Mother would have!
So, I take advantage of that in this way, lol: Once a year or two I ask her to come organize my pantry and my kitchen cabinets and drawers.
She then piles everything on the kitchen table that I don’t need – she takes what she wants, I take a picture of the rest and sent it to all the kids and they “claim” and come take what they want – that’s a win-win in my book!!
Here are some things I learned from her skills:
1. Take Inventory
Take stock of what you have before organizing your kitchen cabinets. Group similar items together and get rid of any duplicates or expired products.
2. Clear the Countertops
Remove any unnecessary items from your countertops and find designated storage spaces in your kitchen cabinets for each item.
3. Sort and Categorize
Divide your kitchen items into categories like: cookware, bakeware, dinnerware, and food storage. This makes it easier to decide where each item should be stored.
4. Donate or Toss
Be ruthless in getting rid of items you no longer use, need, or love (she’s great at this!). Donate usable items to charity (or your kids :))and toss out any broken or expired items.

5. Utilize Vertical Space
Maximize the storage potential in your kitchen cabinets by utilizing vertical space. Install risers, hooks, and mini shelves to make use of every inch of your cabinet space.
6. Use Clear Containers
Invest in clear containers for storing smaller items like spices and baking supplies (I also use these in the toy closet for crayons and markers). This will keep your cabinets neat and allow you to easily see what you need.
7. Organize by Frequency of Use
Arrange your kitchen items based on how often you use them. Keep the everyday essentials in easy reach and store less often used items higher or deeper in the cabinets (think the turkey platter for Thanksgiving, punch bowl for parties).
8. Label Everything
Use labels or chalkboard stickers to clearly mark each cabinet and each container. This will help you stay organized and prevent confusion.
9. Maintain Regularly
Make a habit of decluttering and reorganizing your kitchen cabinets regularly. Set aside some time each month to reassess your storage needs and make adjustments.
- Empty and declutter your kitchen cabinets.
- Group like items together and categorize them.
- Evaluate your storage needs and invest in appropriate organizing products if necessary.
- Arrange items in a way that makes sense for your cooking and baking habits.
- Label containers and shelves for easy identification.
- Utilize vertical space by installing hooks or adding shelving units.
Now that you have the knowledge and tools to organize your kitchen cabinets, it’s time to take action. Follow these 9 tips and transform your kitchen into an organized and efficient space.
